    Tailpipe question 37 Ford

I am in the process of installing a pair of Fenton headers on my 1937 Ford 2-dr flatback sedan. Can I use the same tailpipe on both the passenger side and the driver's side? I will be running Smitys mufflers. I think they have a 2" i.d. pipe on both ends. Any advice from those who have...

Assembly of lighting switch on a '37

Thanks for the tips so far. Yes, the drip pan I was referring to is actually the engine splash pan. I was successful today to get the wiring switch in place and add the bale. The prongs did go into the switch OK by wiggling the switch at the steering wheel. Now I seem to have another problem...

Assembly of lighting switch on a '37

I am having a devil of a time assembling the wiring switch on my '37. I cannot get the prongs to go into the slots on the rotating disc. I have a NOS wiring harness but it so tight down at the end of the steering column. I even tried to remove the drip pan under the steering gear but could not...

Setting the timing mark on distributor

Thanks Jim. I understand and will give that a try. The carb is brand new, but who knows. I should have gone down to the barn to check the current position of the timing mark on the distributor to be more specific before sending my posting.

Setting the timing mark on distributor

I just got my '39 Flatty engine back together and running. Have new carb, rebuilt distributor, new points, wires, etc. It starts at the touch of the ignition starter button, idles fine. Problem: when I rev it up (in neutral) she pops with a backfire through the exhaust. I took her off the car...

    Starter button woes

I can only start my '39 flathead by pushing down on the solenoid button. Runs great. I checked the switch, it is OK. Ground wire from the switch to the solenoid checks OK. I grounded the small terminal on the solenoid directly to the engine, nothing happened. I have all new cables, etc. The...

    '37 wiring question

Thanks again. I will check the distributor again. I can't find any markings on my coil so I do not know if it has an internal resistor or not. Is there any way to test a coil to see if it has a resistor built in? 'Gotta go now and rinse the sand out of my eyes. Gene

    Solenoid question

Thanks Alan, Apparently over the years the solenoid has been replaced and who knows, the one I have was probably made in Mexico or God knows where. My car is not bone stock and as long as the solenoid works OK, I can live with it. By the way, what does RBM stand for, I am relatively new at this.

    '37 wiring question

I do NOT show a discharge on the amp meter when I flip up the ignition switch. I checked the switch and have even used a jumper test wire to bypass the switch, still no movement on the amp gauge. Amp gauge does show discharges for other draws of voltage. I have a new harness, new battery, have...

    Solenoid question

I have a '37 and a question on the solenoid. As viewed from the engine side of the firewall, the RIGHT terminal has the hot battery cable as well as two wires going into the car. The small terminal on the front of the solenoid goes to the START switch on the dash. The LEFT terminal has a cable...

    Third Brakelighter

I have a couple of questions on the Backlighter. Can you buy it for a 6 volt system? Does it have a spacer or divider? I would like to install on in my '37 Flatback that has the window divider strip. Thanks for the photo John, but it is so bright that I cannot tell if it is one continuous...
