    1947 Rear Axle Worn Down

Awesome. Will I need the whole kit and kaboodle (torque tube, banjo, etc)? Or maybe just the axle shaft and some helping parts? Thanks for the offer!!!

    1947 Rear Axle Worn Down

My good friends, it looks like the drivers side is a mess so can I just replace the axle shaft (and related seals and greasings) on that side AND do it without removing the rear end? Reading my manual, if I unbolt from the differential, I have access to removal on that side. Checking on a...

    1947 Rear Axle Worn Down

Thanks all for your comments. I have updated my location (thanks for the push). I’m in Mandeville, Louisiana. Glad I didn’t have the axle snap off while driving! Will need to dig deep into part suppliers and steps to fix.

    1947 Rear Axle Worn Down

My 1947 Ford Super Deluxe won’t move when in gear and I noticed the left rear wheel not turning very well. Pulled off the tire and the drum and found that the pin/bar in the axle end had completely worn down and being stripped down to nothing was the issue. I am starting to do research to...

    Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford

Does anyone know of a good technique to get the gasket into the clam shells with goal to wrap around the torque tube but through a tight area? I can only get one in at a time and then I have zero room to press in the gasket. Does the neoprene solve this?

    Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford

Yeeesh. No instructions in the box. Nothing I found on this topic on YouTube or in my notes (well I did watch a guy put it on the way I ended up putting it on, but maybe he found out the hard way too). Yeeeesh. Sounds like a ton of work to get back at the TO bearing to switch it around. Think...

    Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford

Thanks everyone. Great advice. After a successful install after exhaustive hours, pulling the transmission/rear end is truly a puzzle, with the intricacies of the clam shells and that horrible to fit cork gasket (I really understand the neoprene suggestion!), spline fitting, jacking up rear...

    Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford

THANKS SO MUCH everyone. Understood and very good advice. I noticed that the clamshells bolts go in “opposite of one another” and am wondering why and if it really matters. I also note that the support bracket bolts point up and now that it is installed, cannot insert from the bottom so going...

    Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford

In the attached photo there is a Ujoint gasket set I ordered from Dennis Carpenter that has the 2 clam shell gaskets, the small speedometer gasket and one long, thin gasket that I don’t know where it goes in my 1947 Ford Super Deluxe. I thought maybe it would fit at the back end of the...

    How do I post photos?

THANK YOU for this. Exactly the right instructions for posting photos here. Very much appreciated you taking the time to show the "Go Advanced" and the Paper Clip as that was the missing gateway to adding much needed photos that we all need/want to share. Maybe FordBarn makes this easier for...

    1947 Ford Flathead Clutch Replacement

19Fordy, it looks like you have a floor pan that extends back, while mine does not go back much at all so have little room to move the transmission back. Rear wheels removed. I hope the photos I post show the issue a little better.

    1947 Ford Flathead Clutch Replacement

Update: I pulled the rear end out and all looks good. Gives me a chance to clean up the banjo/drive train, the underside, and thinking about adding some Rustoleum Pro Grade undercoating. Any tips on surface rust removal and prep to make it easy would be appreciated. I previously have done a few...

    1947 Ford Flathead Clutch Replacement

Yes, I do have free play on the clutch pedal about an inch or so. Let me know what you're thinking here in terms of if that is normal, or if it affects something for what I'm experiencing. The clutch has performed well and I wanted to test the power of the car and let it out quickly. One time...
