    Capacitor testing

Just a follow-up, I replaced the capacitor, using the one shown above. This was the only result I found googling. The welder seems to be working ok but I am withholding judgement until I use it a while since it was intermittent. I didn’t try stacking smaller (cheaper) caps because if it...

    Capacitor testing

Quick follow-up, I read the thread on cleaning the feed wheels, tension and inspecting the cable housing suggested by rotor wrench and 39portlander. There was some schmutz and I cleaned everything, rotated the housing even though I couldn’t see any wear, and put it back together. No joy. The...

    Capacitor testing

I got bored so with great trepidation I shorted across it, no trace of life. This was before anyone posted last night. I don’t have an analog meter. With it disconnected and digital meter on 20m ohm scale it will climb to .032. Reverse the leads there is a quick spike but it never drops to...

    Capacitor testing

I know there are some members with solid electrical backgrounds and I need some help troubleshooting my mig welder. It is a 100 amp unit, 110v. Lately it is not working well. It seems to not be generating a hot arc like it used to, it also feeds the wire slowly. The symptoms seem to have...

    PCV valve

I can’t find my notes with the part number but, I used one for a Nissan of similar displacement and has pipe threads on a metal body. No gasket required.

    Dirty Oil- PCV Fail?

Truck was not running for 40 years prior to my buying it so I don’t know. I would expect it kept fumes out of the cab but think it would have screwed up the airflow. It was essentially another road draft tube at the top of the engine and it does not benefit from even the principle of heat rising.

    Dirty Oil- PCV Fail?

JSeery, Talkwrench, no doubt thermostats would be helpful. I mentioned why they are not installed atop the head. I did not mention that I tried them at the radiator inlet. What I observed is they did not modulate well. The temp would climb and drop in sharp, repeated spikes as the thermostat...

    Dirty Oil- PCV Fail?

I took my truck out for a 3 hour cruise after disconnecting the pcv. Decidedly unpleasant fumes in the cab. After brief consideration of my lungs and the absence of joy commuting in that malodorous interior, I have decided the engine is going to take one for the team. I am reconnecting the...

    Painting Over Evaporust?

Evaporust does leave a film that is water soluable and per directions can be left on as a rust preventative. That film is not meant to be permanent and will not last. I used a little soapy water to remove the film followed by typical prep prior to painting. I have used dry film graphite...

    balanceing wide 5s

I put dyna beads in a motorcycle I built and had terrible vibration. When I removed them the vibration went away. I used an adaptor plate and had my wide fives balanced with it.

    Dirty Oil- PCV Fail?

I am compelled to agree that putting a pcv appears to have been a bad idea. As I mentioned above, it is one of the reasons I posted photos, as a warning to others. I argued in other threads why it seemed to be acceptable. I was mistaken. Too bad because it really worked for keeping fumes out...
