For Sale on Hemmings - $18,500.00

Must be a decimal point typo. $1,800 seems like a fair price

    infrared laser thermometer

For what it's worth (about what you're paying me to read this) I was running without thermostats when I bought my car 5 year ago. Usually took a while to warm up and sometimes was running very cool. Installed thermostats and, as expected, car heats up to operating temp much quicker. In my...

    infrared laser thermometer

I usually go all out for tools but a few years ago bought a very inexpensive Kizen LP300 Infrared Thermometer for around $20 on Amazon. Very, very satisfied. Thought I had a bad overheating problem. Using this tool I identified the issue as a bad temperature sender. Still have the tool. It...

    Excellent Article on Oil...

Always like reading oil articles. Here is my opinion. The value of my opinion is exactly what you are paying to read this post. In the early Ford V8 days, oil was total crap; not much science or additives to speak of, just basic lubrication. If I'm wrong, teach me. Just keep it changed...

What did you do today that was flathead V8 related?

Had to be towed home about 6 weeks ago when the Columbia on my '41 Ford Special Business Coupe failed to shift. Wouldn't go into high, wouldn't go back into low. Car no go. Parked it in the driveway and didn't look at it for a month. Looked at it last weekend and found that the bolts were...

    40 Ford Ignition Woes

Thank you for the offer. That is very kind. I will keep it in mind as I try to crack this nut open.

    Acceleration hitch

Back to where I started. Fully warmed up car stumbled a lot and finally died. Replaced one Tubman condensor with another after about an hour and it finally restarted, but not willingly. I seriously don't think it's the condensor although I may be wrong. Now I suspect the ignition switch. I...

    40 Ford Ignition Woes

OK. Unscrewed the switch from the lock. How do you check the contacts? Looks like you have to open the case. How do you do that without destroying the switch? This is a 1941. Don't know if that makes any difference.

How many of you do your own work?

The thing about hobby mags is that you are not the customer who buys the product. You are are the product that hobby mags sell to advertisers. If there was extensive reporting about the bad practices in the industry, the advertisers would go away and there would be no magazine.

Thanks for posting. I recall your original post very well and jumped on this update as soon as I saw it. Looking forward to more updates.

    How to replace window felts?

I'm on a mission to get rid of the rattles in my 1962 Galaxie. Some of them are coming from the quarter windows that are rattling because there's almost nothing left of the window felts. My question is very ignorant because I haven't done this before and I hesitate to start taking things...

    B/W T5 5speed to 59a flathead

alchemy is absolutely right — there’s a lot more to it than just bolting in a T5. Once you get into the X-member, you’re talking about some real re-engineering. I’m a licensed mechanical engineer, and even for me, cutting the frame makes me cringe a bit. A lot of folks try to compensate with...

    Acceleration hitch

OK, car runs better now than it ever has in the four years I've owned it (including when I replaced the battery and hogged down the battery cables.) Idles and runs smoother and has more power. No hint of a stumble or hitch. Did a test drive that included a heat soak. I think crimping the...

    Acceleration hitch

I'm an idiot! Changed the condenser with another Tubman condenser. Nothing. Tried pulling out the choke when the engine stumbled. Nothing. Playing with the plug wires at Cars and Coffee this morning. Found several loose connections. Went home and ran over the plugs with 300 sand paper...
