Distributor gear looked 👌.
But funny enough you bring up compression. The needle did on the compression gage would seem to moved out of sync. Then there was a " Bloop" sound the would sound like it went down the exhaust pipe. That's when my friend called it. Said the Crack was in compression...
Thank You! Just
what I need to know. Looking for a simple, tried and true solution. I wasn't looking forward to taking the front end of the crank apart.
My man thank you.
My Mercury 255 has starting issues.

IGNITION 👎
The conclusion ce to be timing jumped. So the suspect is the
FIBER cam gear.
My question is can I get away with just change the Cam gear
only with a new FIBER gear or would I have to change out the
Crank gear too?
Thanks guys for the suggestions, I'll talk to a machinist here at work and ask if they can turn it down for me.
When I was talking of grinding I didn't think on a lathe, and I just wasn't sure if the bore on the timing gear cover is tapered or straight.
Let me find a machinist I can become...
UPDATE PROGRESS REPORT:
I was able to get a coworker seasoned welder to do the repair.!
Looks pretty good as far as the weld and structure.
I found a piece of round stock that fit perfectly snug in the I.D.
Of the case, and used it to keep the stem true and straight.
Worked out great.
Now...
Hey guys, Today I made an attempt to disassemble and clean my Mallory ZB distributor.
I was able remove the breaker plate and counter weights and thats it.
I got stuck at removing the pin on the distributor drive gear.
While I was trying to punch out the pin , the distributor was wrapped...
I thought of that, just drilling a hole to put the PCV valve there only, and using the current oil fill tube in the back and leave the breather cap there and let it flow from back to front then vacuum in the manifold.
Thank you for your input!
I guess I could follow the first steps, drilling and installing the PCV valve up front, and connecting it the carburetor base where there is currently a vacuum connection.
Looking at the first illustration, won't the direction of the TEAL arrows go the opposite way, as the Vacuum at the carburetor base be going In/Down the intake into the cylinders?
