What a deal! - Be concerned...

We are seeing similar values and interest in my other hobby, military vehicles. Many years ago, the WWII jeep was the "hot" item to have and values and parts were priced accordingly. But as WWII veterans are now close to 100 years old, the Korea and Vietnam era jeeps are gaining interest, and...

42 Mercury Sedan Idles Then Dies Video

The float I have coming, the seller mentioned that I may have to file the tab at the front for good fitment, but maybe not. So, we'll see when it arrives. I'm going the cheap route for now and just getting the communist carb back to running the engine while I prep the car, paint and install...

I hate it when threads are started and the end of the issue is not posted, just left hanging. Got pulled away from the Mercury, but got back on today, removed the top of the carb and removed brass float. See pics. Two large splits in the brass float and full of fuel and sinking, causing float...

    door panel hard cardboard

Good point on the water sealer. If it were me, I'd either just apply several good coats of paint after shaping or apply laquer, poly is not water proof, or marine spar varnish and then apply upholstery fabric and trim.

    Recovering 41 ford running boards

Don't mean to hijack the thread . . but, here gores. . . doing a military staff car on a budget, so I'm looking to do my running board covers on the cheap. If i were to purchase some ABS plastic sheet or some similar product and cut my own to fit, what thickness would you think these pads would...

42 Mercury Sedan Idles Then Dies Video

Let me bonce something off this crowd that has not been mentioned. I have seen on some Bubba jeeps, a adjusting valve on fuel lines that restrict the pressure or volum of gas going into a carb or pump. Would some sort of regulator on the fule line going into the carb give me not only an...

Here is pic of wire running to small condensor shaped cylinder on front of carb. Have no idea what it does or does not do. If the upper butterfly plate is the choke plate, it does not move from cold start to warm up. This plate is connected to a cable that runs to the dash and when I pull it...

42 Mercury Sedan Idles Then Dies Video

I'm seeing Holly Model 94's out there rebuilt in the $130 range which is a no brainer rather than rebuild this aftermarket electric choke carb that has failed. I started it today and when it died I felt around the carb and feel gas on the outside, so a carb project is on the list. As I do not...

Would you just bite the bullet and get a correct rebuilt carb and air cleaner for this project? Might even consider manual fuel pump. This will never be a museum piece, it will be my U.S. Army Air Corps staff car.

Edited the link, works now. Local club member suggested either vapor lock in the fuel pump line or sediment in the tank, suggested rocking the car when this starts and see if it frees up. I'll also add some fresh gas to see if fuel level changes anything. I am very familiar with condensors...

42 Mercury Sedan Idles Then Dies Video

1942 Mercury Town Sedan. Ran when purchased from Bubba and we took a short ride, 2,3 miles. Gauges do not work, but not overheating. Today, engine starts, idles, then chugs and dies and will not restart. Let sit for 10 minutes and it will start, idle smooth, chug and die. Aftermarket carb...

What gasket material is being used, and source? We have the machine and use it for military vehicle stencils as well as posters for our vehicles.

    Starter jammed in flywheel.

Had similar problem on Model T. Recommended quick fix was to rock the T, but we never could get that to work, loosen screws holding starter in position and the bendix would spring back, tighten screws and be on our way. Our problem was bent ring gear and when it jammed, rocking the car would...

Inline 6 more rare than V8 in a Shoebox?

Many years ago, while driving through Kansas, my brand new short block engine, strapped onto a pallet fell off the truck. Anyone seen it? If so, I'd like it back.
