ISO: Restored 1931 Fordor Slant windshield Model A

I have an old friend with cash in hand that is looking for a restored slant windshield fordor. He said that he'd prefer an early 31 with the gas shutoff under the dash. He is also fond of the two tone drab green color, but it doesn't have to be that color. He just wants one that is turnkey...

    Brand new engine won't start

After gearing myself up for a long day of tracing wires and checking every electrical component on my buddy's car, I solved the issue within 5 minutes. I checked the coil for power. It was fine, so i popped the top off the distributor to make sure the button was turning. I asked him to turn...

    Brand new engine won't start

I'm not really sure if he checked the switch or not. I will though tomorrow. What has me puzzled is that he's got it to start two or three times in the last month or so. You'd think it would either start every time or not at all. I hope it's a simple ground issue or a loose wire.

    Brand new engine won't start

Thanks everyone. Hopefully, it's going to be a simple fix but with electrical components, you never know. I set the timing correctly using a screwdriver to check when the piston came to the top and using the pin to locate exactly where tdc was. We set the distributor button to point toward No.1...

    Brand new engine won't start

A buddy has purchased a touring engine for about 6K. I helped him install it but he finished it up himself. So, I'm not real sure what's wrong. He told me that he got it to start a couple of times in the last few weeks. He said that it will turn over and he hears a "pop" every now and then but...

Brake rods on an early 28 sedan

I believe I have found the problem. Looks like someone, a very long time ago, took off the cross shaft and then put it on backwards when they re-installed it. The top of the cross shaft (the part that goes over the transmission and mates to the e'brake fork) should point toward the front of the...

Brake rods on an early 28 sedan

I plan on buying a set of the service bulletins the next time I place on order for parts. Brattons, like everyone else, charges around $12 for shipping whether you buy a big box full of stuff or an envelop. Thanks for checking MrTexas. I'm not sure what someone has done to this car to get it so...

Brake rods on an early 28 sedan

The brake rods are definitely different than mid 28 and up. I was told that I should make sure the top and bottom forks on the cross shaft were straight up and down. (12 and 6 o'clock) So, I spent all day adjusting everything to get the forks straight up and down. It was all for nothing because...

Brake rods on an early 28 sedan

Marco, I don't have any service bulletins for the car. I think the back rods have been modified as well. The car's bracket is made for an eye to fit into. Someone has used a brake rod with threads on it and put a fork on the end. So the bracket on the car and the rod end are both forks. They...

Brake rods on an early 28 sedan

My E-brake handle is over by the driver side door. It has the a different set up as most other Model A's have. Where most linkage curves up and over the trans., mine are two short rods that are held by the transmission and the bracket on the frame. The rods that I'm replacing had about an 1...

Brake rods on an early 28 sedan

I bought new rods for the front as my originals were looking pretty worn. The originals had been extended by about 1 1/4 inches. I set the new ones at 51 7/16 like the book says but they wouldn't connect to the actuating arm. I backed the adjusting wedge off as far it will let me so I could...

Adjusting the door on a 28 tudor

Thanks Tinbasher. I'm probably going to have to do that. I was hoping there was a way to shim the body or the door hinges to get it straightened out. That will most likely take care of the door gap at the bottom, but I'm still not sure that will do anything for the door hitting the body on...

Adjusting the door on a 28 tudor

The belt line on the door matches the body's line just fine. The problem lies between the gap at the bottom of the door and the body, and the door hitting the body between the bottom and middle hinge. thanks

Adjusting the door on a 28 tudor

I've searched for a post telling me how to adjust the door on a tudor but couldn't find anything so, I'm asking how to adjust the door. Standing at the side of the car and facing the door, the top right corner is approx. 1/4 in away from the body. The lower right corner is a good 5/8 to 3/4 in...

    Inside a carburetor float

Thanks everyone for the advice and info. I think I'm just going to order a new float. It definitely has liquid inside. It has so much, it sloshes. Floats aren't really that costly.
