I don't think you said if the fan, belts or generator were mounted when you heard the noise. I had a squeal develop on an engine I had just finished rebuilding.It turning out to be the wrong fan belt (new, purchase from a Ford parts supplier). Problem solved. I also had an old chevy engine...

Mac I think the OD transmission is out of a 1950 Ford car. Does this make a difference in your recommendation?. Don in SC

the overdrive trany is a 53 Ford

Will a 53 Ford overdrive transmission fit in place of a non overdrive transmission?. Will the drive shaft have to be cut ?. The vehicle is a 1953 Ford Pickup with a Mercury engine. It currently has a regular column shift transmission. The overdrive transmission is also column shift. Don in SC

Who do you recommend for fuel pumps, carb rebuild kits for 1939 to 1953 that will tolerate ethanol fuel. Several friends of mine in NC have early ford V8's that would like to know. Thanks in advance. Don in SC

Glade you published your fix. This is a very common problem with the flathead V8 engines. Good job. Don in SC
