Serious oil leak - rear main seal?

Appears to have simply been overfilled oil. My friend had taken the A to a quick oil change place! I was stunned that he would trust those guys to his A. Regardless, by the time my friend got home from my place, the A was no longer spewing oil. He let it run for quite a while and still...

Serious oil leak - rear main seal?

That is a very good point. I do wonder if he didn't have the dipstick in all the way and kept adding oil. I'bee offered to go to his place and change the oil, but I think he was planning on putting into storage tomorrow. I'll let you all know if I get my hands on that A one more time...

Serious oil leak - rear main seal?

I'm not sure what that is. Like I said, there are lots of non-original items on this car - it looks like they pieced things together with whatever they could find at the time.

Serious oil leak - rear main seal?

He hasn't had the pan off during his ownership (25 years!). Regarding radius rod, this has been a driver quality car for 50 years. There are a number of minor modifications that have been made over the years. I've not tinkered with radius rods yet, so I need to ask - What looks so far off...

Serious oil leak - rear main seal?

Thanks Ryan, I have no idea what is up with that hole in the flywheel housing. It kind of looks like a factory made hole, but I've never seen that in other model As (including the 2 in my garage now). I can probably find a rubber plug to put in there for him to keep mud from getting in...

Serious oil leak - rear main seal?

A friend brought his car over for me to help him get it running better (points were very rough and even loose). Once we got it running nicely we left it running for a while. Then I noticed a huge oil spill under the car - more than a foot diameter after 10 minutes running. Take a look at...

Scary ... What the hell happened ?

Though this is not likely the case for a Model A, since others are mentioning other vehicles they've had with the problem, here's one for you. Many years ago we had a 1974 Dodge B100 van. It would get the death wable like nobody's business. Shook the entire van until you brought it down to a...

Pair of Used Firestone Whitewall 19" Tires

2 Used but very nice Firestone Tires off of a Ford Model A. Whitewalls. Fit 1930 and 1931 wheels (19"). Great tread. These tires cost $220 each new. Use these to replace a pair of worn whitewalls on your A, or as a great set of spares to mount on your dual sidemounts.

Tire changers, do you use the DIY units?

Just one comment...I don't even take the wheels off the car. The car does a great job of holding the wheel for me.

    Help please

Certainly checking the conensor is a great idea, but I would certainly listen to Tom. His advise to me a while back was spot on - baffles had come loose in aftermarket muffler, causing blockage. Car ran great at idle, but no power and backfiring when under power.

    Terriable backfiring

I'm not sure I saw a response to JR1967's comment about a plugged exhaust I had a very similar condition that you have - and I did the exact same things you did to find the problem. In the end, it was baffles in the later style muffler had collapsed and blocked the exhaust. At idle the...

Where to store your extra wheels

I love it. Creative and functional. Way to go!

    Surprise...no clutch.

    Wow, good question!

    Surprise...no clutch.

Nope, I'm not sure at all that it is cast iron. Perhaps cast steel. Perhaps forged. Nonetheless, it is fairly substantial, yet bridle enough to crack. But, after 87 years of use, I guess I can't complain. Who among us wouldn't be a bit more bridle after 87 years?

    Surprise...no clutch.

When driving home from visiting friends last night, pushed the clutch to shift from second to third. Clutch went straight to the floor. Obviously something happened to the clutch pedal linkage. Thankfully we were only a mile from home, so kept it in second gear and just drove more slowly...
