    6 Volt LED bulbs

Ralph - when I went to all LED (6V, Pos Ground) on my '53 - because the load was so low, I had weird issues that showed up because there wasn't enough load in the circuit.. apparently this is common in LED conversions -- and so I had to add a load resistor on each side of the turn signal circuit...

so... it's supposed to be a post you can see the rounded rectangular post in the photo... and it's 350032-S in the parts link. and the coil wire is supposed to have a flag terminal that goes through the top of the post and then underneath is a threaded post the distributor wire connects to...

    53 distributor internal wires

That Coil Wire is technically supposed to be routed underneath the breaker plate (next to the ground wire), but it's a royal PITA (and usually have to take the distributor out) to do it.... but as long as it's not interfering with the rotor you'll be fine... have a look here...

The 1949-53 Chassis parts manual is available as a pdf on the Lincoln Old Parts store but the body parts manual is not you may need to find a copy on the flea-pay. Also since you have the mercomatic a mercomatic service manual (green cover) or early fordomatic...

    Flathead Valve Job in Car

Great advice and I’m at least pleased to hear I’m not the first nor will be the last to do this. Biggest concern is keeping the lifter valley grit free, so I’ll have to be extra careful and use lots of rags… Time to get out the pickle bar!! …maybe next weekend :)

    Flathead Valve Job in Car

Hi everyone, Long time listener, first time caller.... picked up a '53 Merc 4dr last July I've been going over from front to back and back to front again. Almost all dialed in... (fuel, brakes, carb, ignition, timing, suspension, interior, electrical, all done) A low compression problem I've...

    New baby 1953 Merc

re: Brakes - the Mercs had 11" drums compared to the 10"s on the Fords.. with that much braking surface they're going to stop as well as any (non-power) disc setup - plus the adapters and the swap are not straight forward... a brake job (drums turned, shoes replaced, lines checked, fluid...

    1953 Mercury Monterey problems

Congrats Jesse, I picked up a one owner garage kept 53 last summer, and have been going through it from back to front. Could be a few things, especially since you're new to the car. Fuel Pump, Carburetor (accelerator pump or power valve), even maybe broken vacuum advance (i.e. bad diaphragm) on...
