Wow! The intake manifold may have a heat riser tube burnt thru, if it has one, letting exhaust into intake. Not familiar with that manifold. Try original manifold if you have it. Does the coil get hot to the touch? Richard in Florida

Hi Folks, That distributor pictured above is a 40B-12127 & was used on Ford Flatheads from 1932 to early '36. The stationary points were screw type. The 78-12127 & 11A-12127 were used on the '37-41 engines. The 11A was originally only 1941 but was mixed in with the 37-41 interchangeably...
