    Darn thing won't start...

There's a reason I love this forum..... you guys rock! So, I didn't drain the gas or mess with the carb - FWIW I only use non-ethanol fuel because I know it may sit for periods of time, and we all know what happens when corn fuel sits. (only use it in ALL of my small engines as well...)...

    Darn thing won't start...

Not as of yet, but one would think it would at least pop and fart a little bit here and there even if the points/plugs were dirty. Visually, they looked OK. But thanks for the input.

    Darn thing won't start...

Hey all, need a hand with some troubleshooting. '31 SW TS with stock engine setup. It's been some time since I tried to start the A (a couple of years), and I'm having a hell of a time. Feel free to scold me for not driving her for so long....unforgivable, I know. Initially I thought that...

    Uhaul Auto Transport & Tudor

Worked fantastic to bring our S/W home. However, we did learn a few things. Not the least of which was that the Ma and Pa U-Haul outfits aren't generally subject to the same equipment audits as the major U-Haul Centers. I won't go down the rabbit hole, but just make darn certain that you check...

Model A Drive to Custer, WA

Would've loved to come along, but work has been a 70-80 hour a week affair lately. I'm afraid the A is under cover for the year at this point. I'll just have to settle for driving vicariously through y'all on the Barn.

Model A Drive to Custer, WA

Nice video Art! At the top of Vista Dr. (4-way stop at the school), if you had looked out over the field you would've had a pretty good chance of seeing my '31 SW sitting under my carport! And yeah, A/C would be a nice option to have this summer!

    Need some expertise...main bearings

Kid- Thanks for the tip - I may go ahead and give the "shave" concept a whirl and see what happens. Does anyone have any thoughts on these bearing clearances being the cause of my deep thump at higher RPMs?? I understand that it could be a contributing factor, but I guess I won't really know...

    Need some expertise...main bearings

Thanks guys for the thoughts on this. Kurt - the darker "spot" is actually a low point, kind of a divit that you can feel very easily by hand. Nothing "wiggles", all seems to be pretty tight. I thought babbit, but being a rookie when it comes to bearings I wanted to be sure. The oil groove is...

    Need some expertise...main bearings

Hey all- Dropped the pan today to check the main bearing clearances, in hopes of quieting the deep thump that presents at higher RPMs. Started with the center, which was a little out, and removed one shim. Got that one just about money (.0015-.002) Rear was a different story, which I'll get...

    The Can-Am Model A Reliability Run;Mt. Baker A-scent

The good news is that if something breaks, you'll have plenty of experienced "help" to make repairs! Might have to put in for the day off for this one.......

Well, I was pretty excited about it.....

Our local Shell refinery held their second annual open class car show this past weekend. Participants included employees, friends, family, as well as a couple of local car clubs. Total turn-out was around 40-45 cars or so - probably would have been more but the weather was "iffy" in the morning...

    Engine smoking...and I don't know why

OK - finally a bit of additional info: Ran downtown today to grab a burger and pick-up a few things at the store, and she didn't seem to exhibit the smoking that I had observed before. Perhaps it was just some gunk in the works from the new exhaust system that I needed to burn out. Upon...

    Engine smoking...and I don't know why

Hey all- Wanted to chime in and thank everyone for their thoughts and suggestions. I've been out of town for work, so I haven't had the opportunity to perform a compression test or a leak-down test - though I now have both of those little goodies sitting on the bench. If I get lucky, perhaps...

    Aries muffler question

Interesting... Nice to know that I'm not alone in my issues with the fit-up to the manifold. New (black) Aries didn't fit up well to the original manifold, which was replaced about two weeks later. Didn't fit up well to the new one either, requiring an "adjustment" of the bend in the pipe...
