Thats right the engine turns over in gear when I push it. I'll check the battery cables tomorrow but the lights are working fine. Don't know how to check the switch, maybe just order one?

FINALLY fixed it. I removed the carburetor, heated it with a propane torch in the area where the GAV housing screwed into it until it got very hot, then dunked it in water. That finally freed the housing from the carb. I was able to unscrew the needle when I broke off the end of the gav housing...
