    Severe bucking coming home

@gdmn852 - I don't know, but that's the likely suspect. As for the other thoughts, I had heard that the points need to be adjusted a few times if new. Apparently (and I'm guessing here) the part that is hit can be soft and over a few miles, it can get hit enough to cause the point gap to open...

    Severe bucking coming home

Whew!! It was the points. Got out there this morning and i could have put 2 or 3 feeler gauges in the gap there. Readjusted and took for a drive. Thanks again everyone!!!

    Severe bucking coming home

Good morning all. Well, I took the 31 roadster to the club meeting last night. All was fine until about halfway home it started to buck. By the time I got to my street, it was pretty severe. There was little power when I pressed the accelerator, but I did manage to get it home. I noticed...

    Cowl light lens scres

Hi folks - in case anyone comes across this again, the screw size is 6-32 x 3/8. That after 3 trips to the hardware store!!

    Cowl light lens scres

Hi all - I have a 1931 Deluxe Roadster with the original cowl lights. Does anyone know the size/measurements of the screw that holds the lens to the light body? I looked it up and was told 10-32 x 3/8 but that screw does not fit into the hold in the bottom of the rim or the small bracket...

    Ignition cable removal

@gdman852 - That is one idea. Quite frankly, I'm at a loss as to the purpose of the clamp. It's not like the ignition cable has an extra 3 feet of length that has to be supported and kept out of the way. I had thought about trying to cut the clamp and bend it back to get the cable out, but...

    Ignition cable removal

Thanks Marshall - however, I took the distributor apart from the inside and left the body there. Have replaced the points now and will adjust later. I'm not going to deal with head nuts!! Thanks for all your comments.

    Ignition cable removal

@Marshall Daut - I'm wondering if it was because everything was designed on a drafting table and not put through real-life tests. There are several points in the engine, ancillary parts, and especially the dash that seem to be designed with one purpose and the best way to achieve that purpose...

    Ignition cable removal

@afordman - Amen! but I have to work with what I have. @Marshall V. Daut - I was afraid someone would say that! Oh well, I can always hope there's a work-around. Thanks so much for confirming!

    Ignition cable removal

Hi all - can the ignition cable on a stock 1931 roadster be removed from the distributor without removing the head bolt clamp? I finally got the distributor to release but now I can't get that blankety-blank nut off and with my back, I don't dare go at it too aggressively. And of course, the...

    Cutout reading??

@nkaminar - thanks so much! It's been sitting for about 2 - 3 weeks while i had the carb rebuilt so that's enough time. Luckily i do have another cutout and will look into the maintainer. Thanks again!!!!

    Cutout reading??

Good afternoon all - i'm wanting to confirm something since i'm no electric engineer. I was testing the cutout per the blue book. I tested output to case, and it say OL, which according to blue book is what you want. Then, i tested output to input, and it read about 120 on the ohm scale. The...

    Blankety-Blank Carb still leaking . . . .

@28phaetonroy - Hmmmm. Hadn't heard that one yet. It's certainly worth a try. Thanks!! I'm at a point right now that I seem to be making it better incrementally. I put another shim in the inlet valve, and it improved the situation somewhat. Not nearly enough, but it is better than it was...
