    Foundering flathead

MOT, you mentioned that the timing is set "by ear" and that the loadamatic distributor is equipped with the Pertronix ignition. I am presuming that the vacuum connection between the port on the carb and the distributor is in place. You have not mentioned the idle speed, i.e., fast or slow or...

    6 volt electric radiator fan

Donald, There are several vendors that offer 6 volt fans. Speedway, Summit, Jegs etc. Just google "6 volt electric radiator cooling fans." For installation on my '53 Crestline victoria, it was necessary to loosen the mounting bolts, so I could angle the the radiator rearward, to gain...

8BA Distributor- Full Race Flathead help

Ric, Re the Load-a-matic distributor: As a temporary measure, here's what I did with a '50 Merc engine in a '40 coupe: The engine was 0.060 over, Edelbrock heads, super dual Offenhauser with two 94's, and an L100 cam. The Load-a-matic distributor comes with two springs on the breaker plate...

removing rear brake drum on '53 ford

Rust may be the issue. The drum is free of the shoes but seems to be solidly fixed to the axle. I'll start with penetrating oil.

removing rear brake drum on '53 ford

I need to install a new wheel cylinder in the driverside rear brake on my '53, but I can't figure out how to remove (pull?) the drum. The shop manual doesn't provide enough information, and searches on the web haven't been successful. Please advise. Thanks. Richard

    Shift "Throws" in my '53

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see what I can determine about the bushings/groumets. The linkage is standard. The mileage of the car exceeds 100K. That may explain the looseness. Richard

    Shift "Throws" in my '53

I am working on a '53 Victoria, getting it into condition for comfortable driving/cruising. The transmission shifts o.k. but the distance (throws, I believe is the term ) between 1st and 2nd and between 2nd and 3rd seem too long. Is this adjustable ? I would like a tighter feel. thanks. Richard

    53 Ford Clutch Linkage Woes

Thank you for the observations and suggestions. I'll be looking into the "issue" again this weekend. The Van Pelt diagram is better than the one in the Shop Manual. Access to the junction of the bell crank and the equalizer arm is a real challenge. Richard

    53 Ford Clutch Linkage Woes

Several months ago I bought a 53 Victoria. The clutch worked fine but the engine needed rebuilding. I pulled the engine, following instructions in the shop manual which described disconnecting the clutch equalizer arm and its bracket from the bell housing attachment. That allowed the arm and...

    L100 cam with original lifters?

The rebuild of my 8ba will likely include the L100 cam. I am hoping to use the original lifters. However, I expect that the L100 regrind will have reduced the dimension of the base circle. I figure this will increase the clearance between the lifters and the original valves.(?) So, if my...

Installing Ignition Switch in '53 Ford

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to complete the installation, aligning the slots and using a broad tipped screwdriver to rotate the "lock ring." As you know, the challenges of working with one hand behind the dash and one in front can be difficult. Great to have it work out! Thanks...
