thoughts on main bearing Babbitt ??

I agree with Brent, there is no sense arguing. Either you consider there may be an alternative to the factory grooving or not. I am certainly not telling anyone else what to do. I am stating what I know to be true and worked for me.i can assure you I am not a key board warrior. At the age of 77...

thoughts on main bearing Babbitt ??

As I said I am not going to argue with anyone. Look up the definition of a plain bearings. Seek out the scientific American magazine article on plain bearings. Interrupting the oil film IS A bad idea. The oil groove in the cap does interrupt the oil film. Nothing complicated here to understand...

    Gordon Biggar's Rex Reheis book

Patience may pay off in waiting for this book to be republished.

thoughts on main bearing Babbitt ??

This is still a good discussion. The key here is understanding and believing that interrupting the oil film is a bad idea. This is really undisputable but still not understood by many. Some folks seem to think model A bearings are special or unique, they are not, they are "plain" bearings also...

thoughts on main bearing Babbitt ??

Not going to argue with anyone. A groove across the face/ load side of the bearing is a BAD idea that disappeared for the most part in the 30s with a few notable acceptions. Cutting the grooves the way Ford did is the safe way if you don't want to argue with all the Ford experts that are monkey...

    adjustable ?

I have the tooling to set the valve grinder to cut the right amount off the mushroom stem. Never used it. As Joe said the single nut lifters have been the gold standard g for a long time. IMHO.

Whomever you are talking to will hopefully have experience and a track record to stand behind whatever they do. Telling the babbitter what to do generally is not a good idea. Most do what's been done before. I studied bearings, lubrication, and the evolution of plain bearings and came to...

Where To Turn My Drums In Sacramento

Model A steel drums need to be ground not turned. If cast iron any brake drum machine will work as long as they have a small enough arbor for the rears.

    Babbit Doctor?

There is an auto parts store in Wenatchee that did have someone doing Babbitt for them. Doing it yourself there is a learning curve and assortment of tooling needed.

Where do you think a Burtz should be for total timing with a Snyder's 6.0 head. Thanks.

    DIY Paint With Eastwood Company

I paint infrequently, so infrequently the game has changed many times. I started with nitrocellulose lacquer, straight enamel, then acrylic, super enamel, but most recent was single stage urethane that was so easy to spray. It took a month to get the firewall ready to spray and a few minutes to...

    Burtz Flywheel

Neil, we are on the same page for the most part. I still would like to have a phone discussion if at all possible. The one thing I don't have at this time is an overdrive. I ran a modified B powered sedan with overdrive for years and thousands of miles. So not having an overdrive is an issue I...

    Burtz Flywheel

Thanks Neil, are you implying a stock weight flywheel on a Burtz might be a reasonable thing to do? The Burtz crankshaft is much stiffer than stock but so is s Chevy small or big block or a Ford V8 but they all use dampeners. I have been using floaters for a long time. There are discussions...

    Burtz Flywheel

Neil, what do you think the ideal flywheel weight might be for a Burtz engine and where would that move the node to? As a reminder when folks talk flywheel weight the total number should be considered. Flywheel plus pressure plate plus clutch disc. A stock A has a little over 90lbs at the back...
