I had the issue with coolant spewing out under load and it was a blown head gasket. The problem was created by me when I replaced the water pump and water neck gasket failing to torque the water neck/head bolts. The first time the car was driven the head gasket let loose, water spewed and it...
This is an older thread, but you can learn from my mistake. I jacked up my engine to replace the rubber pads on my float-a-motor motor mounts and bent the throttle linkage. If I had removed the 2 bolts to begin with it would have prevented this issue.
That is correct, the rear retainer is a Mitchell specialty item and must be used with their transmission. I found an A4514-B2 on eBay, hopefully it will be here by Friday. Lesson learned for anyone considering buying a Mitchell transmission. Make sure you know for certain if you have early or...
Bob C, I was able to modify the Inner U-Joint cover by filing the slots in the 10 and 2 o'clock positions to match the slotted gasket that came with the Mitchell transmission kit. The gaskets are designed to work with either the old or new style cover assembly. Unfortunately if I did the same...
My 1930 Cabriolet is from later in the year for the most part or parts. I ordered a Mitchell Synchronized Transmission a while back and gave late style for the rear retainer and since the upper universal joint housing cap did not have the extension I thought it was a no brainer. Nope, I was...

I used the 509G with the copper spray, no leaks here. Make sure the gasket fits over the head studs easily because once sprayed every little touch wants to pull the copper off. I wait and put the 2 water outlet studs in after the head is on.
Watch this episode of Paul Shinn. I purchased the exact same wiring harness and it went in and everything hooked up like it was made for it.

I know this is old but just doing a little research and ran across this thread. I drove a 77 Jeep CJ5 for over 10 years and a 76 MG Midget for several and as far as I can remember neither had 1st gear synchronized. I don't remember it being an issue, always dropped it in 1st after stopped at...
I don't think anyone mentioned it but make sure you do not tighten the belt too tight or you will be replacing the water pump. My first car was a 1967 RS Camaro and in just a few years I had replaced the water pump like 3 times. Now as I look back with more experience the cause was probably me...
I have been a member for about 3 years now and find the articles informative. I am a nut for getting all the correct screws and bolts. lol The dues are not that much; I just wish the Cabrioletter was in color.
