Everything was free and clean and moved well so I took some Emory cloth and worked the linings down. They appeared to be new. The upper lining seemed a little thicker than the lower. The old drum is apparently worn out and out of round. It is all centered up now. Everything looks good now. When...
Talked with a gentleman at Snyders this morning and he tells me that the brake linings have to be fit to the new drum. Getting them uniform make me a little nervous. He reccomends using a belt sander if I don't have access to a brake lining shop.
Thanks,
James
I don't mean to "hijack" this thread but I have a question about the cast iron drums. I had two bad studs on my rear wheel and when I got the hub off the two bad/loose studs had been welded and came loose. I had to drill them to get the wheel off so they were destroyed. I called a man in...
Mailing a check to Mr. Crabtree for the correct switch today. I told my wife from day one that I didn't like the look or feel of the switch. Apparently this guy lost interest or ran out of money when he got close to the end and cut a few corners. The car was sold in an auction to liquidate his...
I had a repro from Snyder's on my 28 and it seemed to work well. My amp meter is not working. The generator is putting out but the meter is not showing charge or discharge. I've ordered two new ones now and both have had the needles laying in the bottom of the housing. I have taken one apart and...
I was going to go get a gauge to check the compression this morning. As I went through the garage I decided to check again. It started fairly easy and the #2 plug was getting fire, then it died and would not start back. It was not getting any fire to the points. I messed with the wire from the...
I am beginning to wish I had left this car where I found it. My last Model A had been restored for over 40 years and had been sitting for over 10 when I got it and I had it running well in just a few hours. This one is supposed to be "new" and only sitting for a few months and I can't seem to...
I think I have my carb. problem fixed but the the miss and the backfire are still there. I checked the gap on the rotor to be sure it was @ .025. The number 2 cylinder is not firing. I have shorted from the plug to a head bolt with a screwdriver to check the spark. I cleaned the plug and...
I ordered a rebuilt carb to try and plan to rebuild this one for a spare complete with a new float. I had a spare carb and dist for my 28 and let them go with it when I sold it. My limited experience with the As and with the T's has taught me the value of having spares. I did check the knob on...
It is a Zenith and it did set for several month before I got it. It seemed to run smooth when we loaded it on the trailer. It had a bad cut out when I got it. I replaced it and drained the fuel from the settling bowl and put fresh gas in it. I thought that I may have stirred up some trash in it...
