My "new" 260 inch Merc is a BEAST!

I'm so envious ... Right now trying to digest the belts. What is the attachment to the crank front for the belt. I assume you needed the belt tightener because you chose to mount the alternator with a fixed bracket instead of using the adjustable generator mount. Also pls say more about the...

    New water pump woes

Perhaps I wasn't clear, I am looking for sources...houses that sell stock new pumps. Since new Mercury wp are rare I thot I'd ask here. One doesn't put a stock pump into a double hp engine and expect a cool running lump. Check this out ...

    New water pump woes

The rebuild of my late Merc flathead engine is being held up by inability to get a proper new waterpumps. My new waterpumps obviously must be properly rebuilt for improved flow. My engine will have a single narrow Vee belt accommodating an alternator and likely more ,I'm not aware of. Here's...

1950 Merc - My new engine will have the fuel pump capped off hence not have the vacuum provided by it but will only have what vacuum the 4bbl carb provides. Is that adequate to power the wipers? Should it prove inadequate I must change to electric wiper motors from NewPort. I have...

    Engine going to Flathead City

I wish I was only 3 hours away (I'm 5hrs up I-5) See separate thread re Gary. My Merc came from Coos Bay - bought new 1950, restored in 1982 in Seattle. Surprisingly I find no rust from those early years on the coast. Something magic about CB salt air? Good to know you Fred.

Flathead city, Gary Howard, Grants Pass, Or

I had a friend pop in on Gary and apparently there is progress on my engine but holes not stuffed yet. I'm to have more info (fm observer friend, not Gary) this week. I've moved (super distracted) and am patient. So what's a guy to do otherwise - it's only been 9 months already. Those elves...

    cooling fan question

I found a heavy gauge baking pan (cookie sheet) which fits my '50 Merc radiator perfectly. Bought a 16in Spal puller S blade fan. Used a Malco HC-2 hole cutter tool. Pan cost $12, the hole cutter was $82 from Amazon and fan was $155. I've not heard of anyone using 18in fan but whatever. Oh...
