    Ringing sound in engine

Finally got around to further investigation. Lawson Cox (see his post below) nailed it. The sleeve inside the fuel pump stand had come loose and was making contact with the pump rod.

    V-8 Times 1971 to 2008

Most issues of from these years are included--207 in all. Can send you a detailed list if you are interested. Can ship but will be expensive. I live in Sacramento, CA area and direct pick up would be best with SF Bay Area also close enough. My email is psogden@pacbell.net

    1946 Mercury Speedometer

Looking for replacement glass for my 1946 Mercury speedometer or entire speedometer if glass is good. My car is a convertible that sat out in the desert for many years and the numbers on the speedometer glass got cooked. 46 is different from 47-8 for those of you not in the know.

    Ringing sound in engine

Lately, I have heard what can best be described as a ringing sound coming from my 59 AB engine in my 46 Mercury. It is not a chirping sound--like from a belt. It sounds kind of like high pitched bells ringing. This isn't evident at idle but always happens when engine is revved or on a load...

    1946 Mercury Convertible

Very original car. Current owner purchased in 1976. Car came from the Nevada desert near Hawthorne with 82,000 miles on the odometer. It was probably assembled at the Ford Plant in Richmond, California in late 1945 as one of the first post war cars produced. It runs and drives well. Original...

Gas Tank Sending Unit Woes - 46 Merc

I will let you all know how the Drake unit works. I'm not up to removing grindings from a new tank after grinding down the lip. Suppose it could be done by flushing with water & letting dry out before I install--but don't think I will do that. Thanks again for the responses.

Gas Tank Sending Unit Woes - 46 Merc

Finally got around to testing my cleaned up original sending unit manually (out of tank). It moved my gas gauge from empty to full settings as I moved the float wire back and forth. Good news, right? Wrong. The original sending unit will not fit on the new tank I purchased--2 reasons...

Gas Tank Sending Unit Woes - 46 Merc

I appreciate the words of those who felt this unit might be salvaged. I followed suggestions to clean the unit. Here are some "after" photos. I was really surprised how well this unit cleaned up and the arm moves very freely. The part number is visible on one of the photos. I guess the next...

Gas Tank Sending Unit Woes - 46 Merc

Kevin, Your words of wisdom make a lot of sense. I confess I haven't kept up on this. But, if you have a bad original sending unit and you want to keep your stock gauge, you're pretty much out of luck unless you can find a NOS sending unit, huh? Maybe I really will have to revert to the...

Gas Tank Sending Unit Woes - 46 Merc

Guess what? It's "well-----" as can be seen in the pic of my old sending unit. No hope here.
