I searched the forum and couldn't find a thread about this already so, what is the width of a 40 rearend? And why does everyone prefer them? Is it the fact that they measure good under a highboy Model A or 32? I have a rearend sitting in pieces and want to see if it's a 40. Thanks in advance.

I don't know who considers these "ugly"? I love them! They are very rare and in my opinion are better looking than the 36 Ford, even the 3 window, (chopped or unchopped) which is played out if you ask me! I'd much rather own a 37. Is there a difference in 32 4cyl upper and lower radiator tank widths compared to a flathead V8 radiator, such as more rows on a V8 so possibly it's deeper from the grille to the engine ? Or were all the tanks the same size, with just extra holes for the V8? How many cooling rows were on a stock...
