    29 Model A Coolant

runs and doesn't leak but needs coolantt If the "doesn't leak" refers to coolant then this would worry me. The coolant must be going somewhere? Is there coolant in the oil (looks like a cup of coffee)? Are there bubbles in the radiator top tank while running? Is coolant dripping out of the tail...

Teaching my 15YO to drive my A

Actually the model A is great for learning how to use a manual transmission. It has so much torque and 1st gear is geared so low that clutching without bucking or stalling is easy. Also - I never use the term "double clutching" since it is misleading. Changing gears involves simply taking your...

    F100 Steering Box Installation Question

I replaced the 7 tooth steering box in my 29 tudor with a Randy Gross unit, and all went well. He modifies the 29 steering column so the F100 box will fit. I ordered it with new throttle, spark, and horn rods so everything just fit and worked. BTW this will not make it feel like your model A...

    Smooth Shifting The Model A

Agreed. I almost never double clutch from 1st to 2nd. However it was suggested to me by our "club mechanic" that I rev a little higher before shifting to 3rd to avoid lugging the engine. Doing the "three step clutching" allows that to happen smoothly.

    Smooth Shifting The Model A

Step 3 throttle blipping (rev matching) lets you complete the down-shift a little sooner than just waiting in neutral for the engine to slow down. But as I said, if it is working for you, keep doing what you are doing! :)

    Smooth Shifting The Model A

I had a friend who bought a Jaguar with a bad hydraulic clutch It took about 6 pumps to make it work! It also leaked oil onto the exhaust manifold which resulted in blue smoke coming out of the hood louvers. It made for an exciting ride. But that was way back in the 1970's when we were young...

I am the newsletter editor for our model A club, the Fairfield County (CT) A's. I have written this short article to help members who may be having trouble smoothly shifting their model A. Since I certainly do not want to give members bad information I am first posting the article here for fact...

    Model A horn question

What size is the screw that holds the horn cover on the model A horn (mine is a Stewart Warner)? It looked like a 10-32, but it is not. The thread count is 32, the size is however, slightly smaller. What do I care? Because removing the horn cover for cleaning and lubrication is something that...

    Gas?

Yes, but the goal is to reduce as much as possible the surface area where the atmosphere contacts either the fuel where moisture absorption can occur, or the surface of the tank where condensation can occur. A full tank does that.

    Gas?

I would recommend just the opposite. I fill my tank to the very brim. (Although shutting off the fuel and running the carb dry is a good idea.) An empty tank is an invitation for condensation and rust in your gas tank. With the tank full there is no air in the tank, and no condensation. When I...

Need strange lower distributor cap ID

During the winter, when it is too cold to work in the garage, I enjoy restoring model A parts in the comfort of my warm basement workshop. So I picked up this "lot" of distributor caps for 20 bucks on E-bay to play with. (picture 1) One of them was strange. It had very large brass connectors on...
