I was thinking about getting my shoebox out over the weekend but it snowed at my place on the mountain in Eastern Washington. Temp still dropping into the 20's at night. Where is spring?
Oil only goes in the bottom of the pan. As air is drawn into the filter it bounces off the oil before moving into the carburetor. Dust and dirt will stick to the oil allowing clean air to enter the carburetor.
Air passing over the draft tube causes as vacuum which pulls air out of the motor. The oil filler cap allows air to enter the engine, the cap should be position on the filler tube so that it catches the air from the fan.
Couldn't figure out why I kept getting this busing noise in my TV, never happened before. My wife came in and picked up her i-pad which was setting next to the TV and the noise quit. The wifi signal to the i-pad was picked up by the TV. I was just about to call the cable company and complain.
Chevron DELO also is good for flat tappets, I've been using it in my 49 for about 7 years and have had no problems. Of course I change my oil every winter and I only put about 1500 miles a year on my 49.
I've got 49 with a 49 8ba and all of a sudden the oil pressure gauge has started to fluctuate up and down. It doesn't move quickly it will slowly move from 60 down to 20 and back up again with the engine speed not changing. Where exactly is the oil pressure relief valve located? I read...
I just put 200 miles on my almost bone stock 49 with V8 and overdrive going to the Washington State flathead reliability run and got slightly over 20mpg. I drove at a steady 65 mph. I do have headers and dual exhaust.
A friend of mine in Seattle owns the the 58 hardtop conv. When he bought it the door windows were broken and the engine had the wrong pushrods so all of them were bent and it ran like crap. After I replaced the pushrods and tuned it it ran pretty good. The strange think about this car is that...
I know this has been said many times but here it is one more time. Take the ground cable off at the engine block and take 80 grit sandpaper and clean the surface until it is bright. Next clean the ends of all the cables and even put new bolts and nuts on the connections. This means on the...
Although my 49 V8 always started, sometimes I wasn't sure it was going to.
I hesitated converting to 12 volt because I wanted to keep it stock since everything else on the car is stock. Last weekend I thought I would go through the starting system and clean everything. I removed the ground...
Is there a drain on the steering box on my 49? I was wondering so I could change the oil. It seems to seep a little so I'm not sure how much oil there is in it or how to check it.
