    Speedo only goes to 58mph

I believe that your speedo needs to be recalibrated. The part that the cable goes into and is driven by the cable which is magnetized, which in turn pulls the "speed cup"to move the needle to the correct speed. Over time the magnet becomes demagnetized and doesnt pull the speed cup enough. Take...

    Deluxe vs Standard 38 Fenders

I'm not even sure that delux fenders will fit on a standard. I have a 1938 standard 2 door sedan and have "eyeballed" delux vs standard fenders and don't think they will fit. Besides, look at the lines of the standard fenders and, to me anyway, they are more attractive than the delux, jmo.

Using 12volts on 6 volt starter

I used a 6v starter in my 12v converted 38 Tudor till it burned up. Took it to my local starter, gen. Alt. Repair shop. They put 12v guts in the same case, cost about $80.00 and has been working great ever since.

    1961 Galaxie

The only way you can tell which engine you have (FE engine) is to put number one piston on top dead center. Remove spark plugs number one and number four. Get a long piece of coat hanger, small welding rod, small dia. Wooden dowel. Ect. Put the rod down number one and make a mark that you can...

    Cure for vapor lock

No, it wasn't doing any of that. I have 180 degree thermostats. When the temp got up to 180 degrees and the engine was fully warmed up it would act like it was running out of gas, would die and wouldn't restart till the engine was cool again. With the new coil I drove it on the interstate and it...

    Cure for vapor lock

I believe that I had covered all the things that should have fixed the vapor lock. So I didn't think I had vapor lock. On the other hand the coil in the car was unknown and it was chrome. I have pertronix so I got a new pertronix coil to fit. Now there is no symptoms of vapor lock or anything...

How about a movie thread? Car related?

How about "Flim-flam man" with George C. Scott. There's lots of different makes of cars and trucks and if you look real close you will see a yellow and white 1960 Ford Starliner. Great movie also.

    latest ebay fee increase

I've been into old cars since about 1966. Back then the main parts source was swap meets, the odd dealer find, maybe a buddy found a part, Hemings motor news where all the sellers thought their stuff was gold. Just couldn't find much for the old flatheads. No problems with crown Victoria's but...

    Overheating

Yes, I do have a spacer. Have Bob Drake water pumps that were on the car when I got it. I use 100 percent gas here in Oklahoma. I quit using clothes pins about 1965. I do have a hand held thermometer but forgot to use it. I know that I should get an electric fuel pump but have been trying to put...

    Overheating

i have a '38 standard w/ '48 engine stock but with Offy heads and 4bbl. Intake. Since I've had this car I have had the radiator rebuilt, 4 core. Have electric fan with surround, Schumann 180 thermostats, overflow tank. 7 pound cap. It still vapor locks. Could it be a weak fuel pump? What else...

    R10 Overdrive Issue

The passage that allows oil to reach the OD part of the trans maybe blocked causing the noise you hear. My T-85/R11 has a fill plug to add oil to the OD. Try that.
