How about posting a picture of your ride

A lot of talk lamenting the lack of young people involved in the flathead world lately -- check out this video from the Trompers club in Eagle Rock California covering the 2025 Pasadena Roadster Club Reliability Run. My old '40 appears briefly right at the beginning -- my father bought it in...

    Ford Life car

Two things to add here. Lawrie is being modest here. I've been reading through the Ford barn backwards from post #1 forward lately, and he has driven his '33 on much worse roads than that one! Reminds me of a story my father (OldDad in my avatar) told about taking a shortcut from somewhere...

    The 1939 Windshield Frame

Thank you for correcting this misinformation, which was reversed in the craggy recesses of the old brain. My apologies! I find it better to keep my mouth shut most of the time . . .

    The 1939 Windshield Frame

'39 splits in the middle, earlier frames split in the lower half. So the one you currently have is likely a '37-'38 replacement. Any '37-'39 will fit either car or truck.

    1934 Ford 1 1/2 ton Truck Tires

Just today mounted up a pair of Lucas 600-20 tires (from Lucas tire in Long Beach CA) for the front of my buddy's '39 1-1/2 ton. Would have preferred the 650-20 Firestones, but at about $115 cheaper each, they'll do. Can't speak to their relative quality, however, having not run them yet. They...

    1938 Truck Windshield Frame parts

If you find them, I'd like to see them. I made a pair from a couple of steel hinges, cut down and rolled over a bit. Not too pretty, but functional for the time being.

100° in St. Louis this week...

Re: 100° in St. Louis this week... Missed Lindbergh by only eight years - no wonder you are such a trove of valuable information.

    aluminum radiators

Nice piece for the price, eh? And the diesel and chassis look to be made for each other. But the bench and shop wall is almost as interesting. We definitely share the same organizational plan! And what is that beautiful large-scale model on the shelf with the helmeted driver?

    aluminum radiators

Couple more things. I would agree with Leon that, if anything, the Champion cools too well. it came with a 15 lb cap, which I immediately replaced with a 7 lb cap, and wonder if that might still be a bit much for my old heater core, eventually. Heater takes forever to warm up on a cold day. I...

    aluminum radiators

Have had a Champion on my ‘40 coupe for a few years now. Had to fab up some mounts for the yoke carriage bolts on the side at the time — newer ones may include them? Anyway, solved all my overheating problems, and have had no problems with it whatsoever. Seems well built with quality welds. Miss...

    Junior Johnson Passes On

Well, best course of action is to disregard or delete this thread, and head over to the hamb if you want to hear about Junior Johnson's life and legacy. Has more to do with "what I did on my lunch hour" and the Moonshine Festival than reality. This kind of stuff (and "what I did on my lunch...

    Junior Johnson Passes On

There is a German expression, "ins Fett getreten" that I think applies here. Stepped in some grease (and tracked it all over the place). Oops, or source, but gawd either way!?! Calls for a "bootleg turn" I think. I have great respect for both Junior Johnson and Kube . . . Anyway, there was a...

    Still Amazing how things happen

Amazing, you must have done something right in a former life! I'd like a pair about two feet long for the '39 1-1/2 ton . . .

    215 85 16s

No offense intended for your valid points, blucar. Don't think anyone here is out to endanger anyone's life. Just meant that perhaps a slightly oversized tire on an early rim supporting a 2800 pound car is likely safer than the 1966 6-ply Kelly Springfields (one almost bald) that are currently...
