Delving into the air, heat and defroster system, 56 Wagon Experts out ther

I hate these vacuum controlled heater units. In my galaxie I ended up just using bailing wire to temporarily wire everything in defrost mode and dash heat only. At least it makes it drivable. In a bind you could probably do the same for now. I was a farm boy and we learned to work with what we...

Would putting oil restrictors, aka Holley jets, in the oil feed tubes help increase pressure enough to get by until march? If so would motorcraft jets work in place of Holley jets? I have plenty of them

Ok guys, I know it needs rebuilt. I just can't afford to until March. I'm trying to keep it running until then. I have been fighting a never ending battle and only can afford bandaids until march... Thanks for all the help guys

Im convinced I need to pull the valve covers off and make sure I tightened everything down properly and have everything put in there correctly. I will update everyone on my finding later tonight. thanks for the help guys. Switching from 20w50 to straight 30 made my oil pressure worse actually...

    tick tick tick tick

Its definately a mechanical tick. I am certain of that. wouldn't a straight 30 weight oil be thinner than a 20w 50 at full operating temperature? I though that the oil thickened to 50 when hot? I have considered doing a straight 3 in the past and just assumed 20w 50 was better. If I give that a...

    tick tick tick tick

The sound is very much like a small metal hammer tapping on metal. Definitely not an exhaust leak as it only does it when the oil has reached full operating temp. I really think it has to do with low oil pressure ar idle because it's the only time that the sound occurs. I don't think enough...

vacuum holds a steady 19 psi. Lifter was worn. My oil pressure is pretty low at idle too so I wondered if it was an oil pressure issue? at 650 rpm its at about 8 psi. cruising at 2,000 rpm it holds about 30 psi. anything sound alarming or possibly the cause of the tick? rhanks guys. Good memory...

Thanks for the replies. First thing to eliminate is the ac compressor. I removed it haha. Second is that the rockers are the non adjustable rail rockers. When I pulled them I did notice that one of them was worn alone the surface that presses the spring. The lifter on that one was also pretty...

What would cause a tick that goes tick tick tick TICK TICK TICK tick tick tick, silent silent silent silent silents, tick tick tick TICK TICK TICK tick tick tick, silent silent silent silent and repeat to infinity and beyond. It only happens when the engine oil reaches full temp. The sound seems...

390 stumbles, misses and dies in gear

Oh dang your right... I drove a whole day with the gas in the trunk not realizing that it had spilled. Luckily my kids were not with me. Since posting this I have removed the gas cans from the trunk. thanks for the heads up guys. I wasn't thinking.

    open element filter..... again

I wonder if the heat riser going from the exhaust manifolds to the element is helping as well? I put it back on yesterday and it drove better in every situation, hot and cold. So the obvious thing to do is leave it on! Its my daily driver right now so performance is more important than shiny stuff.

390 stumbles, misses and dies in gear

Could the brake lights cause a spark if there was a spill again? That was the first thing that came to mind when I found the pool back there. Second was, "well at least I know my trunk doesn't leak."
