I wanted to provide a follow-up on my original post. As I mentioned, I had inadvertently failed to install the refurbished 6 volt starter when doing the restoration over a number of years. The original starter was reinstalled on the rebuilt engine. Since I didn't realize that I had not replaced...
Wow! More great thoughts. I am embarrassed to admit that when I rechecked my "spare" starter it was actually the one that I had rebuilt. I have accomplished this rebuild over 5-6 years and that's probably not the last lapse in memory that will have been included. I'll post again once I have...
I have a stock flathead 8BA v8 with a 6 volt, positive ground system. The battery is a 6 volt Optum Red Top that measures 6.4 volts when the system is off. The battery cables are 0 or 1 gage and are essentially new. The voltage regulator output a 1500 to 2000 rpm measures 7 volts. The starter...
Thanks again for your advice. I did check the new replacement belt's fit on the fan pulley. When properly tensioned, the belt had no clearance between it and the bottom of the pulley. I will get a wider belt and replace it .
Thanks for your reply. The belt that I purchased is 3/8" at the top and 7/32 "tall". I measured the od of the original belt by applying masking tape to the perimeter then taking it off and measuring it. The replacement belt is one inch longer than the original at 42"od, and the added length...
I'm sorry that I mistakenly stated that the modern belt was also 41inches when in fact it was 42inches. This allowed the fan to be adjusted a bit higher thus giving the fan blade additional clearance.
I have a stock 1951 Ford Victoria that has the 239ci 8ba v8 with the narrow fan and generator belts. I have recently installed a steel radiator shroud which has resulted in the fan scraping the lower portion of the shroud opening, even with the belt excessively tightened . The original belt's OD...
Thank you Ken. I had located the holes but noticed that the holes in the cross member were much smaller than those in the actual pan . That was the reason for my enquiry.
I have a question regarding the type of fasteners that were originally used to install the lower radiator pan on the 1951 Ford car. I have the pan but it has not previously been attached. There is no mention of this in the shop manual, so any information would be appreciated. Thanks for any...
