I will recommend that all original ammeters should be serviced prior to use. The original design is not intended to last 80+ years. They can get very hot due to resistance in the bridging or the formed fiber frame can warp to create a dead short. Be careful.
Your original temperature gauge is a King Seeley thermal type to be used with a King Seeley points regulated sender. The gauge should start on HOT and travel to COLD when the key is energized. As the coolant temperature sender heats up, the internal points make contact less frequently thus...
By 47' I believe you should have the black background. In general, one should be skeptical of eBay listings, etc. Do you not have the original gauges for confirmation?
Be gentle with the trip reset stem. Often, we see damaged gearing on the trip meter side from abuse. Also if you have the Deluxe model with the quick reset trip odometer, take extra care. They are not a serviceable item.
On the sending unit: they are not a rheostatic type sender as you find in applications post-1956. King Seeley used a points style sender which you can research to infinity on this forum. Testing would require you to have NOS components to compare. It also helps to have a "feel" for the pulse...
The original fuel sending unit top looks like a "flying saucer" with a 6 screw mount flange. Double check the continuity of the wire to the gauge while you have access. As for the speedometer, check the cable, but also check that the magnet shaft of the speedometer is free. Often, the...
The original King Seeley fuel level sending units can be repaired, usually. I have had many customers tell me that the aftermarket units are unreliable.
On gauges, you can use a solid state or the points style voltage regulator, but it depends on what sending units you are running. Are you using the original senders or?

In theory, your mechanical temperature gauge adapter/bulb/jam nut should not require any sealant as the adapter is pipe thread and the bulb seats on a shoulder within the adapter, much like a valve. If the threading on your sender hole is damaged you might consider repair or threading to the...
The physics of adding the calibration wire decreases the volume of the reservoir and thus reduces the volume of air required to displace the fluid into the sight tube. Generally speaking, this increases the reading on the sight tube. Whether or not your particular gauge will be accurate at empty...
It is pertinent to have a functional sending unit. Did you follow the calibration instructional pdf previously attached? You can also start with an empty tank and set your fluid level there. Most commonly, a small air leak will cause your issue. They are difficult to trace down, but you have a...
