    The Untouchables Series

Even in the 1960s you could find Model A's in junkyards in New England. One of my club members often reminisces of the time where he could go to the junkyard and buy parts and body panels from old jalopies. He would have bought a whole good car from there if he had the money. It still amazes me...

    King Pin Felt

So this mechanical weakness in mind - you would then put shims between the axle and the spindle then to remove the wear on the kingpin/axle? If you do that where would the felt go if your space is taken up by the shims?

    King Pin Felt

When assembling the spindle and backing plate, there is a large king pin felt that is sold that is supposed to go somewhere. Does it go between the king pin and the spindle or between the spindle and the backing plate for the brakes? And what purpose does it serve?

Transmission Case Bosses and Case Paint

How can I tell if the bosses in my case are too worn out? I was lent a transmission case to compare my current one against one that was refreshed. However, I noticed that the inside of the refreshed case was painted. I don't understand why this is since the case thrust bosses fit against the...

    Cluster Gear Wear

One of my club members reached out and offered me this cluster - I was thankful that he found it. The teeth are in good condition, very little rust damage and deformation. The inside is also clean as well

    Cluster Gear Wear

If I replace the cluster gear (trying to see if my club members have any), I may replace the two sliding gears since my new cluster gears, as they wear in, will inherit the imperfections of my old sliding gears, even if they are in decent shape. I drive barely more than 500 miles a year, so this...

    Nu-Rex Centrifugal Advance

I'd recommend looking up on how the centrifugal timing advances based on engine speed. Since it is a static advance you may find the desire to advance the timing under light load or reduce it under heavy load, as you would if you had a manual advance. A good idea would be to read on the timing...

    Cluster Gear Wear

I am inspecting my transmission components and found unusual pitting in a few teeth of the 1st gear part of the cluster gear set. Besides that, no other teeth have noticeable damage or pitting. I attached a few other pictures around the same gear. I usually start out in 2nd gear anyways and was...

    Transmission Roller Bearings

I took apart my transmission and will be replacing the roller bearings. I did some research on them and apparently there were sub-par quality bearings made for a while. I asked a parts supplier about them and they were unaware of that information. I found the attached articles by Tom Endy on...

    LED Tail light options

I've bought the LED stop lamp bulb replacement and the two are pretty equal in brightness. I tried it with one bulb incandescent and one bulb LED. If you are going to go LED do it for another reason other than brightness.

    5.5:1 Head or 6.0:1 Head?

Going back to the original topic on compression ratios and head designs, what do you think of the Burtz 6.5 head? It has a similar shape to the Snyder's 5.5 head (second image) but with a divot in the center.

    Part Selection for Rebuild

To answer the questions yes both the mains and rods had shims (two and one shim, respectively). My block will need aggressive decking on the side, it's out .005" and it has moderate pitting that goes in at least .010" more. I will give you an update when I start measuring clearences and will...

Local Club Meetings & The Ladies

We are trying to get a group for the women to talk amongst themselves after the main meeting minutes are complete, while the guys look at the parts displays and presentations. We host in a church and there's a nice reading room that connects to the fellowship hall where we congregate.

    Needle valve problems, Zeith-2

I've had the same problem and I originally thought it was the needle & seat. I tested the seat and it closes properly, and holds pressure, when the float rises. But gas would still leak. Even a new one would leak. My guess is that the upper body of the carb has a crack somewhere in it where it...

    Part Selection for Rebuild

Thank you for the suggestions. I already have plans to get the block deck surfaced. The valve seat area is also concerning (pitted) and I may need to put in seats (which aren't currently there). Surprisingly there are still honing marks in all cylinders from the last time it was rebuilt. I also...
