Had a similar noise in an 8BA. Highway Cruising with no load or engine "floating" with a neutral throttle, the noise would come in and out. Clyde of C&G suggested that the piston to head clearance might too tight. As usual, he was correct. The late Dode Martin slightly reshaped the heads...

Look into tumbling media, a process for deburring aluminum parts after machining. I seen excellent results on concours Corvette alloy engine parts.

I have not had occasion to try this myself. Tar based undercoating, when frozen with dry ice becomes brittle and can be shattered and easily removed. Has anyone tried this process?

A timely thread as I'll be on the same task soon. My "new" 11+ year old, wire set from C&G has terminal similar ends to those pictured. According to the directions, they go on the plugs. The other end is a soldered terminal that is shorter and likely more manageable for my helmet caps...
