    Restoration completed!

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. The restoration was completed just in time for the car to be used in a family wedding this weekend. And yes, @Randy in ca, that is a 1962 Triumph TR3B in the background waiting for its turn for a complete off-frame restoration.

    Restoration completed!

The second restoration of this '30 Coupe is complete nearly 50 years after my father completed the first one. Thank you everyone on this forum that helped me out along the way this past year. I started with very limited knowledge of Model A's and couldn't have done it without you!

how to disassemble the light switch

Progress update: I managed to get the clip replaced and seated properly, (Thanks Bruce and nkaminar for your advice) but unfortunately after reassembly the low beams still did not work. My next step was to try to figure out how the switch actually worked. You may laugh, but I ended up...

how to disassemble the light switch

It holds the so-called "spider" in place on the rod that attaches to the light switch lever on the steering column. You compress the spring above the spider and then slip the clip around a slot in the rod. A picture (or in this case a video) is worth a thousand words. Check out the referenced...

how to disassemble the light switch

Success! Thanks, J Franklin. As you said, it just pushes out. I was afraid of breaking something and then having to replace the entire harness. As suspected, the horseshoe clip had come loose -- probably not installed correctly on the last go around. It looks like it also shorted out as...

how to disassemble the light switch

I'm troubleshooting a problem with my '30 Coupe whereby the low beams suddenly stopped working. When I took apart the light switch to investigate I noticed what I think was a loose horseshoe clip or at least part of it that slipped into the mechanism before I could snag it. It now rattles in...

Engine just barely turning over - starter or battery?

Thanks, Rob. No, I don't currently have that book but it sounds like it would be a worthy investment.

Engine just barely turning over - starter or battery?

Success!!!! :) After making a series of measurements inspired by @nkaminar I concluded that the ground between the + side of the battery and the casing of the starter was soft. I added a cable directly between the starter mounting bolt and the battery terminal and now it cranks like a champ...

Engine just barely turning over - starter or battery?

@nkaminar thanks for the compliment on the aprons and also for the detailed instructions on chasing the starter issue. That's just the primer on the aprons. As soon as I'm done with the painting I'll again have access to the cabin and I'll let you know what I find.

Engine just barely turning over - starter or battery?

Thanks, everyone, for all the great suggestions! Currently the cabin is completely masked off while I repaint the running board aprons, but I will follow-up with all these leads as soon as I get access to the battery again and will report my findings. (By the way, this is a bit embarrassing to...

Engine just barely turning over - starter or battery?

My 1930 Coupe starts, but each time I wonder if it will because the engine just barely turns over before it miraculously fires up. Sometimes when I press the starter pedal there is just a click and the engine doesn't turn at all. In those cases, if I release and re-depress the pedal it will...

    Installing pin in window crank

Thanks, everyone, for the replies and photos. The pin fit fine without the escutcheon, so that wasn't the problem. I just couldn't compress it enough to get access to the hole. I do have the repro spring, so perhaps that was adding to the problem. I didn't get the latest posts in time to...

    Installing pin in window crank

Thanks for the reply, Tacoma Bob. I'm not sure I can picture exactly what you mean, but if I understand it sounds like the notch is wide enough to clear the crank and still push on the escutcheon. I'll fashion something similar and give it a try. Thanks again!

    Installing pin in window crank

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to install the pin in the window crank on a '30 Coupe? I've been at it for a couple hours now and just can't compress the door panel and escutcheon plate enough to push the pin in. I don't have the slotted shaft that expands with the setscrew so I must...

    source for mohair upholstery fabric

Thanks, @ModelA29. I've bookmarked that site for possible future reference, but seeing the prices for just the fabric versus the Classtique endorsements from other users I may end up just having the work done by them.
