    Fire

Many of the after market 1931 style dash lamps may short out. Mine did, without even using it on a sunny day going to a show. I have a fuse installed and it blew, OK, had a spare and off I went after disconnecting the lamp wire. I bought an original lamp that only needed light cleaning and a new...

    Vr-1?

I thought the same thing until someone told me only some high compression engines need Zinc. Model A's are low compression.

    Sign For My Model "A"

My front crankshaft seal is leaking so bad, I pity anyone driving too close behind me.

    Shims/Spacers?

ursus is correct. My '31 came with '35 wires on it many years ago. No problems at all, direct fit.

    Firewall Battery Shelf?

My old pickup came to me with an early, store-bought battery holder for the firewall. Possibly the 1940's? I have many other irons in the fire, so I left it there and it IS way handy. I ran two new "00" gauge black cables, one to ground on water inlet bolt & other to starter. There is no...

Heat in a model ‘A’ options

Re: Heat in a model ‘A’ options I am fortunate to have an original Autolite manifold heater in the old pickup. It sure comes into great use for those early Spring and late Fall car meets. I don't see how the aluminum wire-on manifold covers that are sold new today can work as well though. I...

Emergency brake return spring installation tool

I used an old brake rod, cut off a foot or so from the eyelet end and bent to fit around the axle. I made a small open cut in the eyelet to engage the spring end. A one-handed pull and Voila! easy peasy. a large screwdriver in your other hand helps to set spring onto the brake arm. Still can't...

    Good neighbors love Model As

If you think it's "no spark", check if a fuse blew or a bad contact with a fuse holder. I had the same effects once. It was a bad dash light socket and blew fuse which killed ignition.

I adjust my brakes similar to above posts, but I have the rears grab first.

    Coil Mounting Query

I've running a Pertronix Flamethrower 6 V. coil for several years with no problems anywhere in my spark circuit. If money were no object, I would like to hacksaw an epoxy coil open to see if the epoxy is a solid rock or softer material adhered to the windings. If the epoxy cracks away from the...

Blowing fuse issues with 30 amp fuse

Try disconnecting your instrument panel light. The repro's switch was shorting out. This happened to me. I don't have much of any repro parts on this old truck. Either the stoplight switch or the map light, after that short was found in the light, I replaced with an original that was worthy of...

    Fill-Er-Up

Did anyone notice the "Devil" radiator ornament on the roadster behind them? I thought for years the repro Devil giving the "thumb to the nose" ornaments were a thing of recent imagination. I guess not.

Removing the top wood on a '31 sw sedan

Most likely the wood parts will need to be taken out piece by piece as I remember. There is lots of machine screws with square nuts holding the pieces in the perimeter wood and those screws may need to be cut off. Take plenty of pictures as you go.
