One of our club members installed bias ply tubes in his radial tires.. It was a disaster. At least 6 of them failed. The flexing of the tire rubbed holes in the tubes to the point they failed.

There have been several posts stating that when converting to 12 volts there is no need to do anything to the starter or change it to 12 volts. That is absolutely true UNTIL you discover that the starter ring has been pushed off the flywheel by the thrust of the starter drive.

The ebrake rods have springs on them. They pull the rods and lever back to normal. No separate return spring for the brake lever.

They seem to work great for a few hundred miles then they have the tendency to leak. And some times pretty bad. We just had one reversed. Welded the slinger back on the shaft and put it back like original. Lot of work but fixed the leak.

The problem is the cup washer in the pivot post. Repro cup washers will not hold the windshield open due to its shape. The shape does not correspond to that of the round portion of the post. You can try to reshape it. Best bet is find a original cup washer.

You did a good job on the 1st distributor. Go back to the 2nd distributor you rebuilt and look closely where the wire coming up from the lower plate is attached to the points. Make sure it is not grounded there.

We had the same problem with the modern seal modification. In less than 5K miles on a new rebuild it leaked very bad. You don't want to know how it was fixed.

Oldspert, based on the tests you ran with the volt meter your car is still wired as it was originally. The wringing diagram on post 4 is correct for your car.
