    Ignition lock/key

If you don't drill it too deep when you drill and tap the retaining pin to remove it, you shouldn't need a new one. Like Terry said above, once you get the lock cylinder out there will be a code number on the side of it and I, or one of the other locksmiths on the board can cut you a key from...

Thanks all for making me feel like a part of the family, and for the offers of help. I'm sure I will have a bunch of questions when I get started on it. Wow Jim, a half a century of wrenching on Model A's! How many sets of tools have you worn out... LockDoc

Lock assy and special screws - where do they go

And I would withdraw my guess because I think you hit the nail on the head..:) I thought afterward that my spring and ball retainers had a bigger head on them and the threads were finer. LockDoc

    '36 Glove Box Lock Questions

Ken, I think the stop pin being on the wrong side is what would allow the tang to rotate in the opposite direction. If I can find the tang for my disassembled lock I will try it just to see if my thinking is flawed or not. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the easiest fix would be...

Lock assy and special screws - where do they go

And you would be correct. It is a 1940 Ford Glove box lock. I think the screws hold the spring and ball in the column drop for the on/off lever. See if you have a short stiff spring and a small ball bearing in the bin too. LockDoc

    '36 Glove Box Lock Questions

    - I thought I would bring this thread back to the top to see if I can add to the information. First, the lock has to be completely disassembled to modify or reverse the tang. Looking at a '36 GB lock I have I think the flat tang could be reversed to operate the other direction. As some of the...

First year for Ford was '41. I'll have to look in my book for the other two. Edit: Looks like the others were '41 also. LockDoc

Thanks for the warm welcome! I have a pretty well equipped shop, in fact my wife says we are tool poor... I also have a small tumbler. What I found that works a lot better than a tumbler is an old cement mixer that I bought cheap. You can put a lot of stuff in that thing and it comes out like...

Why Ford HURD locks are so secure

Thanks everyone. Hi Tom, One way is to get a short section of an old coping saw blade and grind off all of the teeth except one or two. Use this to try and work the broken key out. Be sure and spray some penetrating oil in it first. Charles had another good post below using a fish hook. What...
