When I was in high school I used to use dad's model A to rescue modern cars when they got caught on the Emergency Snow Routes in Kansas City. $10.00 to the top of the hill as opposed to a $50.00 ticket. Towed a brand new 1959 Cadillac up 5 hills in a row on Troost. Model A's were great in snow.

It's the 2 long bolts. Don't remove them from the starter as they hold it together. Also don't drop it on you. It's heavy. Les

One caution. If you install an electric pump and have it pump through the mechanical it is possile to pump fuel into the sump if the mechanical pump diaphram rupures. Either run the electric on a momentary switch, eliminate the mechanical or plumb the electric so it doesn't flow through the...

After losing compression on my 51 Merc flathead I decided to tear it down and see what was wrong. Found tons of sludge and 5 valves stuck open also lots of varnish on pistons. Every thing is cleaned now and I am ready to grind the valves. I'm having to work in my carport and the homeowners...

Thanks for the replies. I thought it was vavle related but I didn't want to overhaul the valves and still have the problem. The post about bad gas makes sense. I plan on grinding valves and deglazing cylinders and new rings and bearings. Car only has 68,000 miles. Living in Las Vegas I hope...

I've had a srange thing happen to my stock 51 Mercury with merc-o-matic. It has been driven very litle for the last 8 months. Took it out of storage and drove about 30 miles on the freeway. Ran ok but stalled in traffic when starting from a stop. Worked on reposistioning the the electric fuel...

It ran OK but not big on power. Stalled a lot when you shifted the mercamatic into drive. Since I have the engine half tore down I figured it was a good time for a minor overhaul. Engine only has 63,000 miles on it so rings and bearings might keep me going for another 60,000.
