    Blue Ridge Parkway/ Skyline Drive

The section around Roanoke from US460 down to Adney Gap at US221 has been closed for a year or more due to landslides dumping huge amounts of mud and rock across the road, requiring a complete re-engineering of some sections. A lot of people (including me) use that section of Parkway as a...

Teaching my 15YO to drive my A

Lots of kids here who are eligible to learn to drive at 16 don't do it. When I were a lad, it was 15 years 8 months and 1 day (where they got that I'll never know) but I was camped on the courthouse steps the night before waiting for them to open so I could get my learner's permit. As far as...

    Pinto engine conversion

I remember all the things that had to change, like filler opening sizes, when leaded fuel was banned. I know that we in the Olde Bike Hobby wondered for years if we needed to replace the valve seats in our bikes due to the lack of the lubricating properties of tetraethyl lead. But it never...

    Pinto engine conversion

How are top ends in post 1988-cars lubed in this era of unleaded fuel? Lannis

    Pinto engine conversion

And the prices they go for reflect that. After the "crash" panic, the statistics showed that a Pinto was actually no more likely to catch fire than other compacts, but it was too late for it. A car that sold for $2050 new now sells for $15,000 in excellent condition .... I'd get another but...

    Pinto engine conversion

I'm new to Model A's. Is the Pinto engine conversion done because of the lack of stock Model A blocks and engines for rebuilding, or because it improves performance? I would have thought that the "A" performance limiter would be the brakes and chassis as much as the engine? Lannis

    Pinto engine conversion

My '71 Pinto had the 1600cc "Cortina" engine. Peppy little car with a low, MG-like seating position. I enjoyed it while I had it... Lannis

    Pinto engine conversion

The LP gas thing jumped out at me, because in my experience with Morgan +8 8-cylinder cars with LP fuel (they were imported that way in 1970 to pass emissions), they had a reputation for running much cleaner than gasoline powered ones ... you could take the heads off of a 100,000 mile car and...

    Considering Buying A Model A

I bought my first BSA in 1974, and have 4 British bikes in the shed now, but I'm having second thoughts after 48 years. Yesterday I was out riding my '75 Norton Commando to a group lunch, sort of a shakedown run from putting in new rings and a valve job, and it goofed on me 75 miles from home...

    Considering Buying A Model A

I found this thread because I'm in about the same boat as Pete. I'm really thinking I'd like a Model A. I've sold a Morgan 4/4 and a BSA A10 motorcycle to make room in the shop and the wallet to accommodate one. I've owned a lot of old motorcycles, so am familiar with the concepts of...
