changing rear main seal on a 223

Yep, I agree. Thanks for the sleeve and gasket set numbers. I would not have guessed that O'Reilys would carry parts this old. I still have some time before I need to re-install the engine, so I'm going to think a bit more about the rear main, but I will order the seal kit and sleeve right away...

changing rear main seal on a 223

Thanks for the replies guys. They were helpful. I did go to the fordsix.com site. Plenty of good 223 related discussion. I will be spending plenty of time there. The Summit tool is the Chinese puzzle thingy I was talking about. thanks for the link, Y-Blockhead. Thanks also for the NAPA two piece...

changing rear main seal on a 223

I need some advice on changing the rear main seal in the family 57 wagon. The engine is a 223 six cylinder and it is out of the car at the moment. I assume that it has the old rope seal and I imagine that these can be a bit tricky. I have seen Chinese puzzle like tools to help with the...

    painting manual transmissions

Hi Mac. Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you. I'm interested in the small parts kit , the gasket set, and the synchro blocker rings. I have the seals already. Any chance you have a used bearing retainer? the one I have is pretty rusty.

    painting manual transmissions

I agree Hivolt5.0. That is exactly what I'm looking for. Did you paint first then assemble, or the other way around? Were you able to find all the small parts you wanted to replace? I'm looking for thrust washers synchro blocking rings, and complete small parts kit for my 57 T86.

    painting manual transmissions

Thanks for the good advice guys. I like the rattle can case iron approach. It'll give me some rust protection and the guy I run over won't even know it's painted. I'll go with the cast blast product.

    painting manual transmissions

Did Ford paint their manual transmisson cases in the 50's? I don't remember ever seeing them painted, but it just doesn't seem right not to throw some paint on the overdrive I'm building before putting it in the car. Does anyone have any suggestions on what color Ford used in '57, or what you...

    identifying transmission gears

Thanks Mac. It has 18 teeth. I'll bring it with me to Owensville this weekend so that you can take a look. KULTULZ "If it is marked FORD LICENSED, it will be a quality product." I would like to think so, just looking for comfirmation. I'm going to buy one. I will let you know how it turns out.

    identifying transmission gears

Thanks guys. I appreciate your responses. Has anyone out there purchased one of these master parts catalogs that are available on CD ROM?

    identifying transmission gears

I just picked up a T86 overdrive transmission for my 57 wagon. It is apparently out of a 61 ford car and appears to be just what I need. The trans and overdrive unit are in great shape, all except the imput shaft which looks like it was exposed to the weather. The shaft that goes into the pilot...

resister required for a replacement coil

Thanks for the info guys. It makes sense. i checked the coil's primary resistance in the online description and sure enough it was 1.2 ohms. I will pickup a new resistor to go with the coil. Thanks again.

resister required for a replacement coil

I bought an Accel 8140 Super Stock coil to replace what looked like the original coil on my '57. Good coil, I'm sure, but the package says nothing about an external resistor. Back in the day, coils came with a notice indicating that it did or didn't require one. I even went to the Accel homepage...

    single barrel hollys

Thanks, Scicala, 66 it is. Just like 46Yblock said he found. I noticed though, that the jet in my 1904 has been mistreated. It looks like it was drilled out. the hole is bell shaped and off center. at any rate it is toast. Are these available new? I checked a site that carries just about any...
