    Cooling system flush, 41 V8 3/4 ton

Things look good for a preliminary test to see if it'll start at all...and then I can move on to the real fixits. Compression OK in 7 of 8 cylinders, sits about 30 psi on #2 for some reason (probably bad valve). Anyway, from sitting decades, the whole cooling system is dry as a bone. I'm going...

41 Ford 3/4 ton PU questions

New project for me. Light restoration of a 41 Ford stakeside 3/4 ton--more about making it usable than restoring much. It is original as far as I can tell. Found in a barn where it had been stored for decades. flathead V8. Not stuck or anything major visibly wrong on a cursory examination...

    Starter motor--question before I reinstall

Wow--I guess that about cements the issue. One more disassembly to add to the list. Thanks

    Starter motor--question before I reinstall

Working on this old doodlebug and bench tested the starter. Only 12 V available at the time and the RPM seems to be roughly 80. (I kept tests really short due to 12v but long enough to reach the max speed.) Before I reinstall, does that RPM seem adequate or is it slow? Thinking when I go to 6v...

    Longshot question on the "doodlebug"

Thanks, Bob--not quite the same. I'll get a better photo tonight. It's minor but since this doodlebug is to sort of "teach" history at the ag museum and a lot of kids have never seen a semaphore, I thought it might be nice to find a way to bring it back from the dead

    Longshot question on the "doodlebug"

This thing has an old semaphore signal and control chain attached-- no reason, probably just "because". Though the metal parts seem era correct, the lens is plastic so it isn't likely all that old--but that lens is broken. On the slim chance someone recognized it or had an idea of where to...

    "Doodlebug"

The original float bowl is not connected on the other side of the fire wall--just plugged. I assume the builder was a bit confused when that vacuum line was run to the bowl--it's not like a proper header plug would be hard to get. Even though we are a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, we did...

    "Doodlebug"

Thanks to you all. I was about to guess vacuum (my M715 military truck still uses vacuum wipers)...but as the photo shows, it goes to the sediment bowl now. So I guess my 9 beers theory is probably correct.

    "Doodlebug"

Thanks for the feedback. The current fuel line is set up basically bypassing the sediment bowl as far as I can see. I had originally assumed the "farmer" just did something weird but in looking at a few photos online such as the one below, about 1 in 20 seem to have that extra line heading...

    "Doodlebug"

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate all suggestions and recommendations. I'm the kind of guy who does a lot of research before turning a screw so I have at least a bit of a game plan -- everything mentioned is on the list now. The spark advance handle is there and working smoothly--just the...

    "Doodlebug"

What have I gotten myself into....:) I volunteer for a local agricultural museum and ended up with a doodlebug tractor...apparently half a model A with 2 transmissions (are those from an A also?) and an international truck transaxle which I have to bring back from the dead. So ugly it makes me...
