    Windage tray yes or no

I think I have come up with a plan "A" (least used plan in the world). Fabricate a tray closely resembling that used on the 50s Mercury. I think that it will improve oil control and should be rather simple to fabricate. It would be helpful, however, if I could get a few dimensions off an...

    Windage tray yes or no

A little investigating has yielded a few pictures of the 49-53 Merc pan and windage tray. It seems that with some modification the tray portion could be fitted to the 59A pan. Might even be simpler to just fab a new one. Thanks to everyone who has responded . Keith

    Windage tray yes or no

I did notice the design features of the Milodon windage tray and thought I might incorporate something similar. I will hold minimal clearance on the crank and rods and use 14or 16Ga.for reinforcement. I believe that should be ridgid enough to maintain its integrity. Keith

    Windage tray yes or no

Thanks for the input. It looks like I will have to fabricate my own. It doesn't look too difficult (famous last words). I do wonder about the clearance between the tray and the crank/rod rotating assembly. Is there an optimal dimension? Or is it not critical? Keith

    Windage tray yes or no

I have looked at several designs from simple screens to elaborate designs that incorporate hinged doors etc. I intend to use the car as a street rod and I want it to be the best it can be. There is , however,a practical limit. To that end,I would appreciate some suggestions on designs that are...

    97 internal leak

Thanks for the tip. I pulled the bowl portion of the carbs off leaving the bases in place, I found that very little adjustment was required to sync the butterflies. I replaced the emulsion tube from a donor 97.The problem seems to be a thing of the past. Thanks again,Keith.

    97 internal leak

I fired up the engine today for the first time in a long time. I have dual 97's on it. I noticed the rear carb was dripping gas in the right venturi at fast idle. The source of the leak seemed to be around the emulsion tube. The other three were dry. This doesn't seem right, what is the fix...

    Oil leak

You can bet I'll use grease going back. I just finished up soldering up the hole in the gallery plug and I noticed a little hole (1/4" ) located just above the gallery plug 2" +- what is its purpose? Keith

    Oil leak

Well I did a fine job putting the front cover on.I had hard time getting it off. Lots of gasket scraping to do. I will have to drop the pan as I messed up the front of the pan gasket. I am going back with the rope seal and have ordered the necessary seals and gaskets from C&G. Keith

    Oil leak

I will be starting disassembly tomorrow. The plan is to replace the gallery plug, check the thrust of the cam gear and seal the repair sleeve. If necessary I will drop the pan and start from square one. I will let you know what I find. Thanks I appreciate all the input. Keith

    Oil leak

Good morning, as I recall, it's been 4years since I last buttoned up the newly rebuilt engine, I sealed the pan/timing cover just as you described. I am reasonably sure I installed the oil galley plug. I did, however, drill a 0.060 hole in the plug to ensure adequate oil to the cam/crank gears...
