    1951 Convertible rear window

In 1951, the rear window was a full isinglass window that was sewn into a canvas edge. 1949 and 1950 had a smaller metal frame with real glass. You can google photos to see the difference. I don't know of anyone reproducing the frame.

    Is it just me?

Regardless if you have the heater on or off, the 180 stat should hold a minimum temp of around 180 on that side. You are correct that if you are seeing 160 or so, the stat is probably stuck open. An infra red thermometer should be used to confirm your temps. Ken

    transmission question

Why not consider a Volvo overdrive unit? It's smaller than the Mitchell and just as strong. I've only seen one in a '39 and it didn't require modification of the floor. Check out this thread started by Steve Kennedy...

Question on Cam Gear Marks - UPDATE

Just a shot in the dark here so don't laugh. Is the cam gear a press on? If so, could it have slipped to cause this problem? If it is a bolt on cam gear and possibly slotted, could it have moved? Ken

    NGK Plugs

GB, B-4L is a hotter plug. Probably a number of reasons to use a hotter plug. I've used them in engines that used oil and they ran better and burned cleaner than with a colder plug. Otherwise, I use B6L. Ken
