LED taillight problem - Hello, electrical experts!!!

If you reversed the polarity of the LEDs, they tend to burn out quickly. The original Model A's wiring to the tail lights are green for the yellow stop portion of the tail light and black is for the red running lights. Check that you have voltage on the black wire from the A's wiring to the...

1928 A headlight and horn wiring?

Joe K is correct about all the connections. I removed the connector between head light shell and the flexible connector and replaced with bullet connectors on both ends of the wires going from the bulbs to headlight wiring harness. I also threaded a separate ground wire from each headlight...

How to change a starter motor on a 1930 Ford Model A, and not get killed

Lot easier to change the starter on a Model A than a Corvair.

Ford Model A compared to cars that came before it and after it

My neighbor, Dick Headmon, is repairing a '31 Chevy 4-door which had a bad gas tank that is original in every way. The Chevy is a much nicer than the '31 Ford. The engine has never been overhauled and still runs very smooth. Now understand Ford had to get the V-8 in production soon as other...

Blowing fuse issues with 30 amp fuse

When I have a short like when you first described the problem, I attach a voltage appropriate bulb (6V or 12V) across where the fuse goes. Made the bulb attachment with wires (about 6" long) attached to alligator clips that will connect to the terminals of the fuse and to the bulb base and...

Powerhouse generator - an inside view

Have one on my '28 Blindback. The generator was very well made. When I rebuilt mine, the bearings still had grease in them. Did replace both bearings before reassembling. The only problem with these generators is the material holding the brushes likes to break easily, and no replacements.

    generator

Should turn freely with little drag. Check the bearings. When was the last time the rear bearing was oiled if not a powerhouse? If it is a powerhouse generator, both the front and rear bearings are sealed bearings. If it is a powerhouse, I have the part numbers for the bearings. Front...

They dont make parts like they used to :(

Riveted electrical contacts are a real PIA. A neighbor has a '63 Thunderbird that the sequential tail lights would not work. The contact that carried the current to the tail lights had corroded inside the connection even though the connection looked good. Soldered the two pieces together and...

    28-29 cowl lights

When you make the hole for the bracket to go through the cowl panel, use a Greenlee chassis punch and paint over the raw metal of the hole. The chassis punch will make a very clean hole and not mess up the surrounding paint. If the rubber grommet was not included, or if it is old and brittle...
