    52 Mercomatic

Greetings,Ralph, My fordomatic a terrible leak when I first acquired it. Research told me that I needed a cork gasket that looks exactly like yours, with the small dogleg on one sode. My mechanic said I also needed a new screen. 90% of the leak went away after he changed them. The rest is bad...

    Car seized up

Greetings, something very similar happened to me the first time I drove my car for more than ten miles. The car struggled and then would not move. It was the right wheel cylinder on mine. I had to rebuild the entire brake system, including replacing all the drums. Quite a lesson on my 52. I had...

    oil

Greetings, Too bad you received such curt responses. When I first joined the Barn, I had just purchased the clunker you see in my avatar. The gentleman I got it from passed away unexpectedly the day after I drove it home. The last time I "looked" at a Flathead was back in 1962. So I was a...

How many of you do your own work?

Thanks, 34fordy and petehoovie. Like you I go downstairs(unheated cellar) and look at the two disassembled carbs and daydream about which one to rebuild, but it's just a scosh too chilly for my hands. The Hudson Valley is going thru a cold snap right now. Fun times ahead though... JP Lutz

How many of you do your own work?

So, half way thru the year between 81 & 82, I still try to do lots of things myself. I am trying to decide whether to rebuild one of both of my Holley 94's, or put on one of the commie repo 's on Buelah. I don't have a garage or shed, she's in a snow drift right now. I also plan on replacing...

Front E Brake Cable Rubber Tube on it.

I had to replace the broken/frozen cables on my 52 sedan. I placed the rubber in the floor hole and use it as a seal. I think the cables in the 56 are similar. I didn't see any other rub spot. JP Lutz

Fordomatic transmission fluid type A or F?

Greetings, O'Reilly has the following: Pure Guard Automatic Transmission Fluid - Type A in quarts. Is this something that is a modern Type A mix, or is it something else? Again,I don't have the means to pay for a rebuild or a replacement. I just need to get a leak fixed and replace the fluid...

    6 volt battery

So, my 6v Optima is now reading 5.8. It is a year old. I have a 6v alternator on the engine. Most of my engine running is at idle, or under 25mph. I stay in the neighborhood because my outlet is on to a local highway at 55mph. The alternator starts putting out 6.5 - 6.8 at 1000rpm, so I set...

Add to Type A Trans Fluid with ???

Greetings, I have just acquired the parts to have my Fordomatic pan gasket replaced along with the screen. The local shop says I also have to supply the fluid. So I shopped for Type A as specified. Couldn't find it. Looked online and was directed to an old Ford Barn Y8 & Later site 5 years old...

Fordomatic transmission fluid type A or F?

Greetings, I have a 1952 Ford Mainline fordomatic. I have no knowledge of this cars history. The road crud on the case was so thick that I could not see the speedometer cable fitting. I had to chip away the crud to clear it. However the pan is leaking from all the bolt heads. My data plate says...

USPS FINALLY arrived 6 weeks later

I have a similar problem, but not near yours. An Ebay purchase is floating back and forth between Islip Long Island and New Paltz NY. The USPS in Highland NY can't seem to liberate it when it's upstate. I ordered it a month ago from a place in the Carolinas. Like you, this has happened before...

    oil

Bob, I asked the same question a few months ago. I had changed the oil and put in 10w30 & had close to zero pressure when the engine warmed up! I have had the car for 3 years and it's been on blocks for most of the time, so when I finally got the brakes sorted out I started driving it. I had...
