Yesterday I changed my stock fuel pump for a 1948 glass bowl pump. It was a bigger job than one could imagine. I had to remove the fuel pump mount tube, mount the pump then slide the entire assembly onto the pump push rod and bolt it down. I am wondering if the pump drive arm is fitting properly...

Thanks for the great advice. I will install an electric fuel pump with the fuel filter between the tank and the pump. That should solve the problem. I will post results. Jon Laing

Picked up the 39 yesterday. Mechanic adjusted the distributor vacuum brake adjuster and it solved the backfire problem when accelerating; however it still misses when I accelerate. Perhaps I should replace the vacuum brake plunger, spring and adjuster. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do...
