    Front spring question

Yes, I realise that now after spending some time this afternoon with my old mate Doctor Google! This also explains the steering issue last weekend. This car is a constant learning experience for sure.

    Front spring question

Before taking out my Model A today, I thought I would do a visual inspection of the front end. Very suprised to see that all of the leaves bar the base leaf have skewed off-centre. The other side is the other way and I can see where the leaves are rubbing against the modern shock absorbers. I...

    Transmission noise (still!) V2

Well, I thought I should give an update! I am a tad embarassed about what I think was a major part of the transmission chatter:mad:. In many ways it was self-caused. Several years ago I made the decision to replace the E28 multi-disc clutch as it was continually clogging. The idea was good but...

    Pilot bearing recess in flywheel

As part of trying to solve my transmission noise issue, I am thoroughly checking everthing possible that I can think of to check. The original flywheel was replaced with a lightened one machined to take a V8 clutch - replacing the previous multi-disk setup. The recess for the pilot bearing...

    Transmission noise (still!) V2

I just started the engine. Its running very quietly - in so much as an engine with no exhaust connected, no transmission or flywheel cover, can run quietly. So the noise is not from the engine. But at least now I know!

    It was replaced as New

    Transmission noise (still!) V2

Well, how about this theory from left field? The transmission is now on my work bench. As I partially removed the shaft that connects to the U-joint, the chatter remained. Removed it completely, the chatter remained. So that vindicates the theory that the cause is at the front of the...

    Transmission noise (still!) V2

Fading light ended my dismantling yesterday - I now have just the transmission case and the gears on a bench and I will continue the tear down later this morning. Many thanks

    Transmission noise (still!) V2

Yes, all parts have been replaced with NEW parts - some direct from Snyders, others from a dealer here in Asutralia who purchases from Snyders. All the gears (cluster, reverse, second & high etc), roller rearings, front and rear ball bearing, pilot bearing. Throwout bearing, throwout bearing...

    Transmission noise (still!) V2

I have posted several times before about a transmission noise. Over the past few years, I have dropped the rear end several times and removed the transmission. Over several rebuilds, I think the only original part is the transmission case. Yesterday I removed the rear end from the U-joint and...

    Transmission noise (still!)

Very loud and noticeable. Distracting, making driving not pleasurable

    Transmission noise (still!)

My New Years resolution for 2026 is simply to solve the ongoing issue of the transmission noise of my 1928 35A Model A. I have jacked up the rear end and removed the transmission 4 times (at least) over the past few years – so much so that I have the process down pat! But the noise still...

Clutch noise - still! And hoping for a miracle.

And the saga continues. I ended up dropping the rear end and removing the transmission. I put the rear of the car up on stands, started it up, and went through the various gears. Very noisy on each gear bar third where the noise lessened. Using a mechanics stethoscope I deduced that the noise...

Clutch noise - still! And hoping for a miracle.

UPDATE I removed and checked the starter bolts. No tell-tale wear marks indicating contact with the flywheel. Replaced each one in turn with an extra washer and finger tight. There was no change in the noise. So unfortunately I do not see it as a starter bolt causation. There have been some...
