Put #2 at TDC on compression and add compressed air to the cylinder and listen at the tailpipe, carb throat and crank case oil fill, maybe you will hear a hiss and be able to tell which is leaking.

They still do. Now that cars are more reliable the manufactures think that all you need is a jack and a lug wrench.
