    Oh Hell...wiring again!

I'm not familiar with that setup, but thinking about it, it doesn't seem like the tail lights and the turn signals should be on the same circuit. I'm guessing that all the lights use the same ground in the back, so I'm going guess it's not a ground issue. My first thought would be to check for...

    marvel mystery oil

MMO from my understanding, is a thin oil mixed with some detergents/solvents. While I've never used the stuff, the idea behind I feel is sound. With todays oils, I feel it's no longer as needed as it would have been in the times before multi-viscosity oils and high detergent oils, it can still...

Top Speed up Hill 25, Normal???

Depends on how steep the hill is. There's some hills near where I live that I have no trouble doing about 40-45, but I can think of one hill near by that's very steep that about 25 would be tops. If it's just a mild incline, then I'd say something needs to be tweaked to help free up some power...

    Downshifting Stock 30????

Normally I try not to downshift much, luckily with the way these cars are geared and being able to adjust spark advance lets that work out for the most part. If I do have to down shift (traffic slows up a hill, etc) then clutch, neutral, let off clutch, blip the throttle, clutch, then second...

    chassis wipe down

I like to clean up the differential and that area with regular car wash soap. If it's really greasy, then I've used dish soap to cut the grease, then finish with car wash soap. I've had good luck using Meguiars wax as a final coat to keep things looking nice.

    Cylinder Head Removal

My head didn't want to come off my car either...it'd only been on there for 50 years or so haha! I tried to make it come up with the studs in the block, then realized my problem was it was hanging up on the studs badly. I shot lots of oil around the studs, then removed them all. The head came...

    Engine Oil

If I remember right, anything from straight 20 to 50 were ok in the manual based on outdoor temperatures. I think 20 was recommended in the winter, and 40 in the summer. Also if I remember right, in the handbook by Les Andrews he recommends 10-30. With this in mind, I would also wonder if...

    Engine Oil

I doubt a 50wt would be needed for a Model A. I used to run straight 30, but have since moved on to running 15-40. If a straight 30 works ok, I'd hazard that a HDEO 10w-30 would even be an option in a fairly new or tight engine. I've been tempted to try some Rotella T5 in mine, but I've got...

    Battery life

I had my Optima go belly up beginning of this year...which I was a little disappointed in. I put it in summer of 07 I believe. It's whole life it saw a generator and it normally read about 6 amps while cruising. My generator acted up (stopped charging) about this time, so at first I thought...

    gas mileage

In my Phaeton I can do about 20-22 if I keep my speed around 45...if I do 50-55 then it's about 18 MPG. It's been pretty consistent.

    STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment

I've used Stabil in my Model A before and I wasn't too impressed. Seemed to gum up my carb and that tank always ran a little rough until I got a fresh tank of gas in. Now I just put in a can of Seafoam, gas seems to stay good and no more gum in my carb!

    Ford Barn Orphan?

For the most part, I like it keep it to something that would have been possible around that time frame. I've got a high compression head, 6 volt alternator, and sealed beam headlights. It's also got nice leather seats and a boat horn. Some of that is out there, but a lot would be have been...

    tire recomendation and other questions

I put a set of Universal tires on my A awhile back. I was expecting to have to get them balanced, but I took it up to 60 and was still pretty smooth. I was pretty surprised, I figured it would vibrate something. I'm actually pretty pleased with them, I don't know how long they'll last in...

    Torque value for head

I was chasing down an issue with my Model A running hot and overheating randomly. When it would get hot, I noticed the bubbling in the radiator. I stopped up the overflow tube, put a wet piece of cloth (I used a car wash rag) over the cap and restarted the car. When I would rev it up, I could...

    cold garage

I generally just run a 50/50 mix with green coolant. I change it out every few years, no issues with rust or freezing that way. If you really don't want to use it, draining it should be ok.
