Thanks everyone! I think I may just bite the bullet and use this as an opportunity to buy a new pair of manifolds from Snyders. Not ideal, but beats trying to find a reputable/responsive machine shop around here, or juggling parts to find a matching pair.

On my '31 coupe, the intake manifold recently cracked pretty badly near the carburetor. I have no idea whether either of the manifolds on the car are original. I went online to shop for a replacement and bought what looked like a good one off of eBay. Claimed to be original, had the vacuum port...

I guess another alternative would be to just thread the studs down another 1/4" or so? Also with the corner brackets, were they just slipped onto the stud and then tightened with a nut from above? Or did they have a backing nut installed under them, to help keep them from tilting too much?

I know this is a really old thread, but is there any chance you can point me to some examples of what you might use for the 1/4" rubber mat? I'm curious what you've found to work. Thanks!

Stupid question, but when you say short out the plugs I assume you mean something like an insulated screwdriver from plug terminal to a head bolt? Obviously head bolt first, in case the screwdriver isn't quite insulated enough? :)
