    40 Ford radiator

remember that a V8-60 is a much physically smaller engine than the 85HP engine so Ford riveted on steel plates to the front crossmember where the 85HP engine mounts go; those plates have to go away when installing the 85HP motor or otherwsie the engine just isn't in the correct location and you...

    Heavy Duty 3-Speed T87 Conversion

The half ton four speed driveshaft is unique to that application far as I know; in my southeast area not a lot of T87s around in F-1s, F-2s, or F-3s. I didn't know the T-87 was even an option in an F-1. I know the F-2s/F-3 all use a deeper drawn cross member and its relatively easy to swap...

Fit Problem - Left Fenton Header

I did the grind thing to make a little room plus rounded off the edge of the sterring box; even after all that it was still too tight for my taste. This was a 59A in a 39 DLX. I have no clue why Speedway would even bother to tool up a Fenton casting that didnt fit a flathead in a 40 Ford...

A mix of Lockheed and Bendix brakes?? 1951 f3

x2 on the Bendix style brakes. You are fortunate to find good drums! The wheel cylinders are still made as is the master cylinder and hoses. You should be back in the stopping business soon. Don't let the Wagner Lockhhed cast into the wheel cylinder fool you; its Bendix style brakes with a...

A mix of Lockheed and Bendix brakes?? 1951 f3

I believe that in 51 the e brake moved from the lever on the cowl to old school on the side of the trans. Probably let Ford standardize the 4 speed trans on F-2 to F-6 except for the mount which changes height depending on F-2/F-3 and F-4 to F-6. I also wonder if during the production year Ford...

    replacement wheels

Stu is the resident expert on truck wheels; hes got it down to a science and I second all his thoughts in this thread. I've used the 19.5 budds mentioned above on an F-3; they look "right" because its a big wheel with a tall skinny tire. Pricey and hard to find; thick steel and heavy. Its a...

    ‘40 2 door sedan

Re: ‘40 2 door sedan I had a V8-60 in a 38 STD Tudor a few years ago; it was about like driving a Model A as far as power and acceleration goes. You have to wind it up pretty good in second before hitting third, just not much grunt like a normal 85HP in a 37-40 Ford.

    '48 F1 and F6 grill similar?

Respectfully, the hood, upper valence, lower valence, and grille are all equally interchangeable for U.S. F-1 through F-6 for model years 1948 through 1950. The actual fenders, upper and lower pieces, are either F-1 only with small tire opening or F-2 through F-6 with the large tire opening...

    1953 Mercury Truck Axle Swap

Check your parts books close, it may be easier than it appears. I have no direct experience with 53-56 but a fair bit with 48-52. In the bonus built years of 48-52, the front axle and spindles are exactly the same f1 to f3. So to lose the 8 lug front drums is just a bolt on for f1 stuff, to...

    1941 Ford Pickup Transmission Mounting

I think what is trying to be said is that if you try and use the u shaped rubber mount for 42-52 half ton transmission you are pretty much going to need and cut out the complete middle of your 41 crossmember and go from scratch to duplicate something like the 42-52 half ton or 42-48 car had. If...

    390 in a 51 Ford truck

X2 on the tall pentroof style 65-66 mercury valve covers as found on their 410 engines. Hard to go wrong with the early style rounded thunderbird valve covers either. Black and gold just looks good on a FE. Chucks trucks in CT makes some composite washers to surround the steel balls inside the...

    1941 Ford Pickup Transmission Mounting

42-52 1/2 tons all use the same rear trans mount/bearing retainer and cushion. So if that is the rear bearing retainer and mount you have it's set up for a u shaped saddle type mount streching across the "ears" on the rear bearing retainer rather than the two donut biscuits in 41. You'll have to...

    Seat ideas

Ford ranger seats, from the 90s up until 2003 or so, fit excellent. Some even had a small indent in the lower seat cushion to add more room for a floorshift. Course that is a 20+year old used seat that will need some restoration and recovering just like the factory seat will.

    "Strainer", '40 Coupe Body part?

For what it is worth, the strainer (x brace) in the 39 sedans also have two different styles. I attributed it to assembly plant "liberties".

    1950 F-1 Pickup Bed

Assembly protocol was to completely assemble the bed (minus fenders), then paint the entire assembly. This is true for stake and platforms as well. So your tin floor covering should be body color. In mid 50 and continuing through at least 52 the boards would have been sprayed body color. There...
