    need to replace starter

I an needing to replace the starter on my 36 pickup. I would like to get some advice or opinions on what type to replace it with. Would you recommend staying with the old style bendix or going with the new slim style. The old style looks like it is going away.

7 Wire Indicators both sides flash.

Go to LEDLight.com and order led white bulbs for 6 volt. They will be bright enough. I got 1129 6V 30 SMD color white 6000k and 63 LED 6-7 volt BA15S 2 each. I forget which one is for taillight and parking light. They can help you

Thanks for the info, you just really made my day! The thought that I may have babbit bearings has always been a dark cloud over my head. I admire your determination to learn and rebuild your engine. You are doing a great job.

    '36 221 - rebuildable??

I was reading your article about the different numbers on your engines heads. I have a 36 PU and it has the same numbers 68-6049B and 68-6050B. I have seen other 36's with the same numbering but I don't know why. What really got my attention was when you were trying to define if it has insert...

    Compression questions

I guess the way I said that was confusing, you are right, 175 is not hot but normal high on the temperature gage I assumed is about 180 degrees and as I was driving home it was fluctuating between that high mark to ******* out at the top of the gage and back down depending on stop and go...

    Compression questions

Yesterday I was all excited I flushed out the engine and radiator for about 30 minutes then filled it up with distilled water and a bottle of Prestone super coolant. I started it up and let it set and idle for about 20 minutes the temperature gauge barely moved up, so I took it for about a 20...

    Compression questions

I forgot to mention the radiator looks pretty good there are no damaged fins they look even and straight, I did see two small places that were repaired but look fine and are not leaking. I put distilled water in it today. I could only put in 14 quarts and it would heat up spit out a little in...

    Compression questions

Seth in answer to your question yes this truck has been sitting idle for most of it's life. The guy I bought it from owned it about 5 years. The first year he owned it he had the gas tank cleaned and sealed and the mechanical brakes completely gone thru and rebuilt. He went to some early ford V8...

    Compression questions

I am trying to find what is causing overheating problems on my 36 pickup with the original stock engine. I thought I had it solved last fall but it is acting up again. I bought a new compression gauge and checked the compression trying to determine if I had a blown head gasket. This is my...

Should I convert from 6 volts to 12 volts

Here is one thing to consider on the 6v to 12v question. I have a 36 pickup all stock. I called a local garage to see about getting the radiator flushed and took it in to be done. I showed the manager how to start it and went in and set down to wait on it, about 30 minutes later the mechanic...
