    55 Thunderbird door jam switches

The map light lights when turned on manually so the power to the lamp and the bulb in it are good. However, even when we jump across the door jam switches, it does not light. There is 12v power to the switches. Based on the schematic DMSFFR provided, I'm guessing that the wire from the switches...

    55 Thunderbird door jam switches

Thank you for your responses! The next step will to check the circuit of the light above the radio. First, of course, is to see if there is even a working bulb there. Then we'll see if jumping across the switch activates the light. Again, we appreciate your help. Jeff

    55 Thunderbird door jam switches

Hello All, This is my first post on this forum. I am helping a friend with his 1955 Thunderbird and have very little knowledge of these cars. The question is on the door jam switches. They have 12 volts going to them and we assume that these operate dome or interior lighting but cannot find...

    Lincoln Radio

Thank you all who helped me with the revival of the power top on the 41 Lincoln Continental. That's done and now the next project. The radio has to come out (it doesn't work) and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to accomplish this. I have been told that the glove box door and box have...

    Power top motor

Final update: We started the Lincoln and raised and lowered the top several times and the motors easily moved the top. I want to thank everyone who posted with help in getting this sorted. Now to move on. Jeff

    Power top motor

It's all figured out and everything works great! What we figured out is that there is a problem with the driver's side harness. When hooked up there nothing works. When we hooked up the motor to the passenger side harness it worked perfectly. So we made pigtails that had one input from the...

    Power top motor

I am not that good with electrical. My friend who is working with me is so I'm leaving it up to him to figure it out. When we hooked the motor up to a battery on the bench it worked beautifully in both directions. When we hooked it up in the car exactly as we did the first one, nothing. Today we...

    Power top motor

The bearings came off. We put the motor back together and it works perfectly on the bench. Not so much in the car. When we hook up the wiring harness to the motor, nothing happens. It will take some time but we will figure it out. Jeff

    Power top motor

There does not appear to be anything in the housing except a matal gasket or washer of some sort. As it stands the whole shaft and brass bearing would rotate as a unit. I does not seem to be a smooth as the other motor. The photo you posted in the old thread has a bare end to the shaft on both...

    Power top motor

Now we have the second motor and have it apart. The armature came out with brass bearings attached to each end of the the shafts. The first motor, which is the same motor, the bearings were in the housings. My question is are these bearings simply corroded onto the shafts or are they meant to be...

    Power top motor

Update: We installed the 41 Ford motor onto the Lincoln transmission with some modifications. We installed the complete assembly into the Lincoln and it worked perfectly. The one motor we hooked up raised the top with ease. We have another identical motor on the way for the other side. This one...

    Power top motor

I am very inexperienced with Ford but I do know that later in the 50's power tops were hydraulic and not screw type electric although the pumps were run by electric motors. I have no clue about modern tops but when I look online the modern ones all show electric motors.

    Power top motor

After I saw your photos, I thought about that. The problem is, where would you find all the parts needed? Or could they be fabricated from speedometer cables, etc. A 6 volt motor that could run in both directions might not be too hard to find. I'm thinking about it!

    Power top motor

I'll bet that with a single motor and 2 cables, it solved the problem of 2 motors running at different speeds, jamming the mechanism. The transmissions are identical except that they are mirror images of each other with the same mounting for the motors on both sides. From what I have seen, this...

    Power top motor

Thanks again for all your help. I got the wiring sorted. I essentially created a 3 wire motor by grounding the positive brush wire to the motor case and then to a good ground as posted in the older thread. The other 3 wires were attached to the appropriate wires in the original Lincoln wiring...
